Mann faked data about his planet's viability so Endurance would rescue him. Mann breaks Cooper's spacesuit visor and leaves him to die, and flees to Endurance on a shuttle; Romilly is killed by a bomb Mann set to protect his secret.
Mann needed the Endurance to survive and complete Plan-B with the surviving crew. Meanwhile, Romilly successfully accessed KIPP's archives, which revealed the true data of Dr. Mann's planet. Before Romilly could inform the others, the robot detonates, killing him in an explosion.
In an emotional conflict with Brand, Romilly decides to side with Cooper on inspecting Mann's planet. On Mann, Romilly was killed in an explosion caused by Dr. Mann while accessing KIPP's archive; which contained the true data of the planet.
According to the laws of Physics, all fluids flow from high pressure to lower pressure. When Dr Mann opened the hatch, the airlock depressurized (the oxygen inside rushed out into space, which has vacuum) as he had not docked properly, and so there was an explosion that destroyed a part of Endurance and killed him.
Once Romilly and TARS were able to re-boot KIPP, the robot began to display the true nature of the planet - data that contradicted Dr. Mann's claims that he found a habitable surface. Sensing danger, TARS urgently orders Romilly to step back. KIPP's mainframe detonated killing Romilly and destroying Mann's compound.
They awaken Mann from cryostasis, and he fills them with the hope that the planet he discovered could support human life. However, he privately reveals to Cooper that this is a lie. He falsified the data so that NASA would send a crew to rescue him.
It is then revealed that he and Professor Brand knew that Plan A was impossible and that the only contingency that allowed for human continuity was Plan B. Mann did not want Cooper to return to Earth with the Endurance, as he now needed it to reach Edmunds' planet with the remaining crew to start a colony.
The planet's gravity is 80% of Earth's gravity. It is so cold that even the clouds are frozen, giving the disconcerting view of vertical mountains. While the planet has water and an atmosphere, it is thick with ammonia, making it deadly to breathe.
Mann finally went through with his survival intentions: to fake his planet's data from hypothetical models from his robot KIPP, booby trapping KIPP, and put it in a more optimal perspective, and to be a leader on humanity's new planet.

On his deathbed, Professor Brand confesses to Murph that he lied about his Plan A's prospects – that he failed to “reconcile relativity to quantum mechanics” and his gravity project needs much more data. She takes on the project herself and beams out the bad news to space, where Coop and Amelia receive it.
When they returned, Romilly and TARS told them they were gone for 23 years, 4 months, and 8 days. Romilly had spent "a couple stretches" in hypersleep, he still aged a considerable number of years outside of hibernation.
Brand : Why didn't you sleep? Romilly : Oh, I had a couple of stretches. I stopped believing you were coming back. Something seemed wrong about dreaming my life away.
Romilly further explains that wormholes function by "folding" space in half and allowing an object to travel from one side of the wormhole to the other instantaneously, representing this concept by bending a sheet of paper in half and pushing a pencil (representing the Endurance) through the paper.
Murph burns all of the crops in order to make Tom understand he needs to leave the farm. Romilly is killed by a trap mine. Brand and Cooper barely escape back to the Endurance.
Due to Gargantua's massive gravitational pull, “every hour on that planet is seven years on Earth”. After a massive tidal wave hits the spacecraft and delays their exit, they find that 23 years have passed on Earth.
It's only when she returns to the room as an adult however that she realises the ghost is actually her father - the big clue being when Cooper wrote "STAY" in morse by knocking books off the wall while his past self was leaving for the mission, which Murph wrote down as a child and rediscovers as an adult.
The planet is named after Dr. Edmunds, who was the first astronaut to land there. Endmunds is a habitable planet and this was verified by Dr. Wolf Edmunds, which was sent by NASA, with other twelve astronauts (the Lazarus missions), to explore that planet.
Mann's last words are, 'Brand, I don't know what Cooper's told you, but I'm taking control of the Endurance, then we'll talk about continuing the mission. This is not my survival, or Cooper's - this is mankind's- '.
The spaceship Endurance's destination is Gargantua, a fictional supermassive black hole with a mass 100 million times that of the sun. It lies 10 billion light-years from Earth and is orbited by several planets. Gargantua rotates at an astounding 99.8 percent of the speed of light.
Earth is a rocky planet orbiting a G-type main sequence star known as the Sun. The planet is the third in order from its star, home to the human species and assorted varieties of flora and fauna. In the middle of the 21st century, the planet suffered the Blight which threatened to destroy all lifeforms on the planet.
The Blight is a plague that has ravaged almost all the remaining food sources on Earth. By the time Interstellar occurs, the last crops of okra are dying off, leaving just corn as the only viable food source for humanity.

After finding his planet's conditions to be promising for human life, Edmunds sent a "thumbs up" signal back to NASA on Earth. He subsequently settled into hypersleep and awaited to be rescued. During this time, a rockslide occurred and destroyed his landing pod, causing Edmunds' death.
After the slingshot maneuver around Gargantua, Brand became the second human astronaut to land on Edmunds, accompanied by CASE, who discovered that the eponymous astronaut perished in a rock slide many years prior. Dr. Brand tearfully buried him near her compound with his hypersleep pod tag that read: DR. EDMUNDS-12.
