The Jedi Council Master Qui-Gon Jinn discovered him on Tatooine and brought him to the Jedi Temple, arguing that Anakin was the Chosen One of ancient prophecy and that his Jedi training should begin immediately.
On Mortis, Anakin encounters a vision of Qui-Gon Jinn, who says he believes Anakin is the Chosen One who will bring balance to the Force. Qui-Gon directs Anakin to go to a place nearby that is strong in the dark side of the Force, a place where he will confront the Son of Mortis.
Qui-Gon could engage Anakin for a short while, but Anakin would eventually overpower him. Heck, even Obi-Wan's victory was already a small miracle. Just look at Dooku's description of Anakin during their last duel: He {{Dooku}} understood how Skywalker was getting stronger.
The book then digs into one of the final scenes in The Phantom Menace, where Anakin watches Qui-Gon's funeral pyre blaze and “feeling a profound sense of loss.” After leaving his mother and the only home he's ever known, Anakin then experienced intense battle and the loss of a person who promised him a better future.
We know Qui Gon was an unconventional Jedi, often butting heads with authority, would he have been the safer choice to train Anakin over Obi Wan? It's obviously speculation, but I'm going to say that Qui-Gon would have managed to keep Anakin from falling to the Dark Side.
In his memories of Qui-Gon Jinn, Vader reveals perhaps his sole exception to this otherwise inviolable rule. Qui-Gon epitomized what Anakin Skywalker once believed the Jedi to be – a standard the rest of the Order failed to live up to in Darth Vader's eyes.
Unfortunately, he only knew him for a few days, but Anakin still loved Qui-Gon as he loved Obi-Wan. Vader, on the other hand, likely despised Qui-Gon and blamed him for all the suffering he went through.

Why Qui-Gon Jinn Was Palpatine's Greatest Threat. Unlike Yoda and the Jedi High Council, Qui-Gon Jinn was only concerned about the will of the Force. Therefore, Palpatine needed Qui-Gonn out of the way because he was better connected to the Force than the other Jedi.
Qui-Gon was Dooku's apprentice. Dooku loved Qui-Gon like a son due to their many similarities; both were individualists, idealists, and both had knowledge of the Force that was unique.
Well, come Mike Chen's Star Wars: Brotherhood, fans got insight into all the verbal jousting, including the Jedi Anakin hated most, which surprisingly wasn't Obi-Wan Kenobi. Anakin hated none other than Mace Windu, who was immortalized in the prequels by Samuel L.
Though Qui-Gon Jinn was strong in the ways of the Force, including telepathy and levitation, there's just no way he would beat Luke Skywalker in a fight.
Anakin Skywalker may have been a great Jedi before turning to the dark side, but the most powerful Jedi in Star Wars was his Padawan, Ahsoka Tano. Despite being the Chosen One, Anakin Skywalker was not the most powerful Jedi in Star Wars, as that honor goes to Ahsoka Tano.
Qui-Gon believed Anakin was the Chosen One, prophesied to bring balance to the Force, and that their meeting was no accident. He brought Anakin to the Jedi Council on Coruscant, and was angered when his fellow Masters refused to train the boy, but saw their lack of vision as only a temporary setback.
He was also well-versed in ancient Jedi prophesies, and thus suspected he was living in the time of the Chosen One. It's gradually becoming clear he was the one Jedi who could have actually stopped Palpatine. E.K. Johnston's new book Queen's Peril has just supported that assertion.
Qui-Gon's ghost was trying to stop Anakin from going down the path of the dark side, Qui Gon truly cared about Anakin, at least more so than Obi Wan, and could see the path clearly that lead Anakin down the path of the dark side.
Qui-Gon was ultimately defeated by a move that can only be done with a double-bladed lightsaber as Darth Maul used the handle of the weapon, striking Qui-Gon physically on the chin, stunning him for just long enough to deliver the killing blow.

“The tear [on Anakin's face] says that he knows what he's done, but he has now committed himself to a path that he may not agree with… but he is going to go on anyway. It's the one moment that says he's self-aware that he's rationalizing all his behavior.
Obi-Wan's guilt over failing Anakin is what drives his character to watch over Luke Skywalker on Tatooine. In a way, keeping Luke safe and then teaching him the ways of the Force is Obi-Wan's way of getting redemption. He feels terrible for failing Anakin, because he believes he robbed Luke from having a father figure.
Master Yoda knew that Darth Vader was once Anakin Skywalker - the boy he sensed too much fear in to train way back in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. For many years it's been assumed Master Yoda was aware from the day Vader gained his cybernetic enhancements and signature wheeze.
Maul's plan was to destroy Anakin Skywalker before he becomes Darth Vader and brings destruction to the Galaxy, and allows Darth Sidious to become unstoppable. Darth Maul knew that Anakin Skywalker was the so-called Chosen One, and that he had been groomed by Darth Sidious to become his new apprentice, Darth Vader.
Obi-Wan Kenobi, during his confrontation with Vader on Mustafar, stated that he believed Anakin was indeed the Chosen One, but that his destiny had been altered, and the prophecy left unfulfilled. Anakin fulfills the prophecy by killing Palpatine. Skywalker's sacrifice brings balance and redemption.
