As for the sith, fear and power is what drives them, more power but fear is a means to control and torment. They might say they don't, but they do. Maul, Dooku, and Palpatine have all expressed fear of death. Vader has expressed fear for his family.
Like his master, Darth Sidious, better known as Sheev Palpatine, Maul's main weakness was his overconfidence. In Luke Skywalker's confrontation with Palpatine during The Return of the Jedi, he tells the Emperor that his overconfidence is his weakness.
As powerful as Darth Sidious may have been, it's easy to forget he actually seemed afraid of Master Yoda. As seen in Revenge of the Sith, Palpatine initially thought he could deal with the aged Jedi Master - and then, when Yoda proved able to counter the Sith Lord's Force lightning, he fled.

Why Qui-Gon Jinn Was Palpatine's Greatest Threat. Unlike Yoda and the Jedi High Council, Qui-Gon Jinn was only concerned about the will of the Force. Therefore, Palpatine needed Qui-Gonn out of the way because he was better connected to the Force than the other Jedi.
They were afraid of him. Simply put they saw in Anakin a power so strong they were afraid they could not control him. Yoda had sensed danger in training him, which was true, but I'll address that in a minute. Ultimately the council, filled with fully trained Jedi masters, looked at an untrained child and saw a threat.

Did Darth Maul fear Darth Vader? Yep. Darth Maul didn't really say or show straight up that he "feared" Darth Vader, but he openly stated his belief that he could not defeat Darth Vader without the help of the Jedi, therefore on his own.
Few Sith were as haunting and terrifying as Darth Nihilus, a Sith Lord who was almost an apparition, rather than a man. He barely spoke, preferring instead to communicate through the Force, which made him almost impossible to reason with.
Darth Sidious, also known as the Emperor and Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, is not just the evilest Sith in Star Wars (arguably in both canon and Legends) but the evilest villain overall, deemed so thanks to his irredeemable actions throughout the Skywalker saga and surrounding content.
Qui-Gon Jinn, who is considered a maverick Jedi Master by his colleagues, might have been able to keep Anakin on the path of the Jedi, had he not been killed by Darth Maul. Star Wars' Qui-Gon Jinn would have been the ideal mentor for the young Anakin.
Going back to the previous idea of Palpatine using his powers on the Jedi, this is the most commonly understood reason why the Jedi were unable to sense him. Palpatine had a plan that he executed to perfection, and that means he needed some way to keep himself from being found out by the Jedi until the right time.
The Sith are envisioned as a faction of Jedi who fell to the dark side, and who were either expelled from the Order or fled into the shadows. They must have settled on the planet Moraband, sometimes called Korriban, a powerful vergence in the Force steeped in the dark side.
As a Sith, Praven was very strong in the dark side of the Force, though he felt stronger with the light side as a Jedi. He wielded a single red-bladed lightsaber as both a Sith and a Jedi, and he was skilled in the use of a wide variety of Force powers, including Force lightning, Force blasts, and Force paralysis.
Dooku was powerful and extremely skillful with his lightsaber, to the point he easily beat Anakin and Obi-Wan. Still, Dooku was less powerful than both of his masters – Darth Sidious and Yoda. The Battle of Geonosis set Palpatine's ultimate plan in motion, and it is considered the first battle of the Clone Wars.
More cunning and devious than all but the most attuned Force-sensitive beings, Darth Bane could more than likely defeat Yoda in a battle of both strength and wit.
