Thomas was sent into the glade because he had betrayed WCKD (World Catastrophe Killzone Department), the organization responsible for conducting experiments on the Gladers. In the movies, it is implied that Thomas was immune to the Flare virus, which made him valuable to WCKD.
Thomas calls for Newt's help, but realizes Newt won't be able to get to the Door in time to save them. Feeling he must help, Thomas slips into the Maze and the Door closes behind him. In an act of brave self-sacrifice, Thomas enters the Maze to save the others.
Throughout the novel, even in the face of life-or-death challenges, Thomas exhibits intelligence, strong problem-solving skills, and a desire to fight for his own survival and that of those around him. Through his actions, Thomas proves himself to be trustworthy, reliable, and resourceful.
Thomas risks his own life, entering into the Maze to save Alby and Minho. In contrast to Thomas's act of bravery, Minho leaves behind the two of them in order to save his own life. Like Thomas, Gally sacrifices himself on the night of the Grievers' first raid so that no one else would be killed.
The disease eats away the minds of the afflicted until they turn into Cranks, zombie-like creatures that roam cities killing people until they're killed themselves. Fortunately for Thomas, he and most of his friends are Munies — immune to the Flare. That's why they've been put through the Maze and the Scorch trials.

Why did WICKED send Thomas into the Maze?
In the movies, it is implied that Thomas was immune to the Flare virus, which made him valuable to WCKD. Instead of killing him for his actions, WCKD decided to send him into the Maze as part of their experiment [1].
It is eventually revealed that Thomas' blood contains a unique enzyme that can destroy the Flare virus [2]. In "The Death Cure" film, Teresa, one of the main characters, uses a small fragment of Thomas' blood and observes under a microscope that it snaps a dark-red vein with the virus in it, effectively killing it [2].
At night, the Maze doors open, and a horde of Grievers attack the Glade. Many of the boys are killed. They obtain part of a Griever's stinger tail and discover that its venom syringe restores their memories. Thomas stings himself to get answers.
Teresa betraying Thomas and his friends by alerting WCKD of their location. Please don't fight them, Thomas! Teresa Agnes is the main deuteragonist of The Maze Runner franchise. She is an agent of WCKD and Thomas's love interest.
Plus, with Thomas unable to get the "cure" to Newt in time to save his life, Thomas doesn't have much personal incentive to help resolve the pandemic, since everyone else he cares about is immune.
However, none of the Maze Runner movies ever explain why WCKD sent Teresa into the Maze. It seems improbable that she betrayed WCKD since she defends them fervently. In Maze Runner 4, the story could provide clarity about whether Teresa went into the Maze voluntarily and the purpose of her presence.

Gally is alive in Maze Runner: The Death Cure because he was rescued and saved after The Maze Runner's ending. Although the Gladers thought that he was already dead, Gally confirms that they left him to die. It was after they left that another group stumbled across the maze and laboratory and found Gally still inside.
Compassion/Empathy: Thomas shows both traits many times throughout all the books, from his relationship with Chuck, to his guilt over having worked with WCKD and helping them design the Maze, to the way he could still empathize with Ben even though the other boy had tried to kill him while stung by a Griever, even back ...
Character: The central romance between Dylan O'Brien's Thomas and Teresa, played by Kaya Scodelario, made The Maze Runner one of the best sci-fi fantasy movies of the 2010s. Thomas and Teresa's mysterious shared past and complex relationship makes everything more interesting in the 2014 film.
Assistant Director Janson, also known as simply Janson or the Rat Man in the books, is the main antagonist of The Maze Runner franchise. He was the highest-ranking official in the organization WICKED under Chancellor Ava Paige's command.
The books center on Thomas, a 16-year-old boy with no memory of life before the Maze, the friends he makes in the Glade, and their struggles to survive a series of deadly tests and overthrow the corporation running them.
The emotional intensity is definitely doubled up in the movie, establishing Teresa as a Thomas' one true love interest. Unlike Dashner's original story, the possibility of him dating Brenda is eliminated, and the audiences also get enough time to process the death of a character introduced right from the first movie.
Gally got through the same way the other Gladers got through. Gally used the small mechanical device that was found in the dead Griever body. We know this because when Gally appears at the end he is holding it.
Newt gets scratched by one of the Cranks on his right forearm, consequently infecting him with the virus. How does Newt get infected on Maze Runner? So of the guys who were originally in the Glade in the books, most of them were already immune to the Flare.
Due to its current development status, Maze Runner 4's release date is unknown. Disney has never given the film a date on its schedule, even though the studio has releases mapped out through 2027. This might mean that the earliest Maze Runner 4 could be released is 2028.
If Newt drew blood by biting Thomas, he may have been healed by his blood (assuming we're talking about the movies). However, he would have had to draw an extreme amount of blood to be saved, and gotten it into his (Newt's) blood stream. Thomas would not be affected, most likely.
