Katniss and Peta only learn of Thresh's death when his picture is projected in the sky. However, in Mockingjay, the third book of the trilogy, Katniss reveals that Thresh died in a battle with Cato, one of the Career Tributes.
In the first movie it is implied that Thresh dies during a Mutt attack. When the gamekeepers first release the Mutts into the game, the sound of an attack can be heard, before Thresh dies and the canon sounds. Although the audience does not witness Thresh' death, there seems to be little room to dispute how he dies.
He also gave Katniss a chance to run free instead of killing her as a peace offering for protecting Rue. Cause of Death: Once he avenged Rue, Thresh was killed off-screen by a pack of wolf-like mutts designed by Gamemakers to hurry along the end of the games.
They wonder how Haymitch won the Hunger Games, and Peeta guesses he must have outsmarted the other tributes. That night, Thresh's picture is projected in the sky. Thresh is dead, and the news upsets Katniss. If they didn't win, she wanted Thresh to, because he let her live and because of Rue.
Cato touched the blood and shoved Thresh into a lake. Thresh hit his head against a rock and drowned, his head full of blood and the cannon sounded. Cato smacked his hands.
Formerly a warden from an already forgotten order, Thresh is a nightmarish creature that delights in the pain and suffering of sentient beings, dead or undead. His sadistic tendencies has gained repulsion even from other beings like him, and is arguably one of the most evil characters of the entire lore.
In the novel, Cato makes two confirmed kills: the District 3 male and Thresh. In the film, he makes four additional kills during the bloodbath: the District 4 male, the District 5 male, the District 6 male, and the District 10 male.
Cato sees his victory in the Hunger Games as the correct and natural outcome – after all, he's been preparing his whole life, and tributes from Districts 1 and 2 are most likely to be winners. But Katniss's high score in training, uncommon for District 12 tributes, earns Cato's attention and ire.
What does he mean by this? It means that during the arena, during his killing spree, he realizes that there's more to life than killing, and he's just a pawn in the whole scheme of things. He realizes that he's a cruel person the capitol created, and he wouldn't mind dying because he wasn't alive on the inside anyways.
The films, trying to be as faithful to the source material as possible, naturally had to include Finnick's death as well. In this sense, Finnick is the perfect candidate for upping the stakes of the plot via his death, as his hope for a future with his partner Annie made his demise seem even more untimely.
Before the Capitol battle, Gale had explained to Katniss his series of bombs designed to feed off human compassion: a small bomb would go off, and then when medical aid rushed in, a second bomb would go off, killing those people as well. Incidentally, it's this exact type of bomb that took Prim's life.
Both Morphlings die during the Hunger Games in Catching Fire, after the female tribute from District 6 protects Peeta from the monkey mutations that attack the tribute. She dies in Peeta's arms while looking at the sunset.
President Snow sees her as an enemy since her combination of popularity and low-level defiance constitutes a threat to his power. He dreams up The Quarter Quell as a way of getting rid of her and murders Cinna in front of her as a way of rattling her just before she's tossed into the arena.
Peeta urges Katniss to run and stays to fight fellow tribute Cato while she escapes. He survives the encounter with Cato but suffers a stab wound on his leg. He camouflages himself into the rocks and mud alongside a riverbank, slowly dying of blood poisoning until Katniss finds him days later.
In the film, Glimmer acts flirtatiously toward Cato. They talk and joke around the fire, she sleeps beside him that night, and even snuggles into his arm. However, the relationship is largely one-sided, and Cato leaves her to die to the tracker jackers.
In the 74th Hunger Games, Clove was the only Career tribute who came close to killing Katniss twice — at the Bloodbath and at the Feast, and certainly seemed to have a deep hatred for her, perhaps because Katniss received a higher score than her.
She was only 13 years old when she was killed in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, and her youth only makes the tragedy that much harder for Katniss to bear after everything else she had suffered. Prim's death is a truly heartbreaking moment.
While Prim is caring for the wounded, a second set of bombs go off, killing her, along with everyone around her. This act of treachery and shameless targeting of the innocent is what finally turns President Snow's guards against him. They believe he is to blame, when in reality, Alma Coin was responsible.
Glimmer's death occurs by chance. Katniss drops a tracker jacker nest on the Career Tributes' camp while they are sleeping, and Glimmer is stung to death before she can get away. Marvel is the first person that Katniss intentionally kills. After Marvel kills Rue, Katniss' friend, Katniss shoots Marvel in retribution.
The following year after Lucy Gray Baird's victory, another female tribute emerged as the Hunger Games winner. Mags Flanagan became the first victor from District 4, living off of nuts and her survival skills by creating fishhooks. She was also the first victor to move to Victor's Village before serving as a mentor.
Cato's moans are never-ending, and Katniss feels only pity for him and wants his suffering to stop. Morning finally comes and Katniss is able to see Cato below. Out of pity, she uses her last arrow to end Cato's life.
