She knows that, while the game might be boring, it could be a lot worse. The Mockingjay should know. She has played many terrible games. The epilogue's overriding purpose is to provide closure, indicating that both Katniss and Peeta will live on in their children. The children represent the ultimate form of rebirth.
In the Mockingjay book, Katniss realizes at the very end that she always needed Peeta and what he brings to her life. Regardless of Gale's involvement, he wouldn't have been her final choice, but that does seem to be the end of their friendship.

Why does Katniss hate Gale at the end of Mockingjay?
In the beginning, Katniss did love Gale. But around the middleish/ending of the story, she finds herself loving Peeta instead. The main reason, though: Gale and Coin were designing a bomb, and Prim was killed by the bomb. After she died, Gale realized it was over with KAtniss.
At the end of Mockingjay, Gale relocates to District 2 and begins working in the district's government. He helps train replacements for the Capitol's Peacekeepers. By this point, he knows that he and Katniss will never be together.
When he first meets her, he calls out her name as if they already know each other, but in reality, he wants to get to know her before they get into the arena and become allies. LAST: "Katniss!" In a full-circle moment, Finnick's last line is also Katniss's name.

Although he ended up killed by the crowd it wasn't Katniss who ended his life in the execution scene despite that she said over and over that she would kill him. Instead, she ended up killing President Coin and Snow had nothing left to do but laugh as if he won the battle.

After winning the games, Snow forced Finnick into prostitution and sold his body to Capitol residents to gain their trust. Finnick only agreed to take part because Snow threatened to torture his loved ones. Even though he bedded several women throughout his time as a victor, Finnick's love for Annie remained true.
Gale does not marry anyone in The Hunger Games. He and Katniss talk about running away together and starting a new life in the wilderness, but they never officially marry.
Before the Capitol battle, Gale had explained to Katniss his series of bombs designed to feed off human compassion: a small bomb would go off, and then when medical aid rushed in, a second bomb would go off, killing those people as well. It's only implied that they get it on via snuggling and other affectionate acts in close quarters — but if you have read the book, they really imply that they took their relationship to the next level.
Later, the two learn President Snow considered their actions to be an act of rebellion against the Capitol. After their last interview, in which the two continue to affect their romantic feelings for one another, Peeta comes to the realization Katniss has staged her love for him all along.
