There were many rumors about why Catherine Hicks didn't reprise her role as Karen Barclay in the sequel with the popular being that she was pregnant by her husband Kevin Yagher who operated the animatronic Chucky doll, but the simple fact was that the director John Lafia wanted to take the story in a new direction.
The duo is searching for all remaining dolls possessed by the soul of Charles Lee Ray. They are contacted by Jake Wheeler and travel to Hackensack, New Jersey to help them. After she gets separated from Andy, one of the Chucky dolls tricks Kyle into triggering a bomb set by Tiffany, presumably killing her.
Child's Play 3 (1991) Eight years later, Andy is now sixteen years old. He has been thrown out of numerous foster homes, and Social Services has enrolled him at the Kent Military Academy as a last resort.

Does Andy's mom come back?
Station 19's mysterious Elena Herrera (Patricia de Leon) made a sudden reappearance in Andy's life at the very end of season three, understandably rocking Andy to her core.
While neither Karen nor Mike has been seen onscreen since the first Child's Play, Child's Play 2 did reveal that prior to its opening, Karen had been placed in a mental hospital due to her backing up of Andy's story about Chucky being alive. That led to Andy being placed in foster care and meeting Kyle.
Unfortunately, as is so often the case, that Good Guy doll has been possessed by the spirit of a serial killer, the notorious Charles Lee Ray. After gruesomely murdering several people in Andy's life, Chucky attempts to transfer his soul into Andy so that he can be a real boy.
This sequel picks up two years after the original in which young Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent) was tormented by Chucky, the killer-possessed doll trying to transfer his soul into the child's body. With his mother traumatized, Andy is sent to live with a foster family.
(played by Christine Elise) - Andy's teenage foster sister whom he ends up staying with. At first, she finds Andy to be a pain on her side, but starts to back up his story about Chucky when she witnesses him trying to take his soul and later finds their foster mother murdered by Chucky.
Chucky made his first appearance in the 1988 film Child's Play. In the film, a serial killer named Charles Lee Ray, aka Chucky (Brad Dourif) uses a voodoo ritual inside a toy store to transfer his soul into a Good Guy doll to escape from Detective Mike Norris (Chris Sarandon).
When Nica asks Chucky what his motive is, he reveals that he was a family friend that was secretly in love with Nica's mother Sarah. He killed her father and kidnapped Sarah. When Sarah contacted the police and staged his arrest, he stabbed her in the stomach causing Nica's impairment.
Child's Play 2 (1990) does make her fate seem dark, however. She didn't back off from sticking to Andy's claims of a killer doll, causing the two to be separated. Little Andy is left with a framed photo of them in happier times. He goes into the foster care system while his mom is institutionalized.
How did Chucky come back to life in Child's Play 2?
The ultimate choice was to have the corporation that produces the Good Guy dolls reassemble Chucky to show consumers that there's nothing wrong with the doll. Naturally, while doing so, the line worker reassembling the doll is electrocuted by a power surge, thus reviving Chucky.
Kyle follows Chucky and Andy to the factory, where Chucky knocks Andy unconscious and attempts the ritual to transfer his soul into Andy. However, Chucky is able to finish the chant until suddenly, his nose starts to bleed.
Now 16, Andy has been sent to Kent Military School after failing to cope in several foster homes. Colonel Cochrane, the school's commandant, advises Andy to forget his "fantasies" about the doll.
Justin Whalin played Andy in Child's Play 3, while Gabriel Bateman played Andy in the 2019 reboot of Child's Play. Andy is mentioned, but does not appear in Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky.
He only became evil due to his sadistic desire to hurt and kill others, shown when his father was killed by the Hackensack killer, and decided to become just like him because he was inspired by the killers actions.

Andy's dad never appears in any of the Toy Story films, and his absence is never addressed directly. Naturally, several theories have sprung up to explain that away, including some in which Andy's parents got divorced. One theory suggests that Andy's dad died prior to Toy Story 1, after a childhood battle with polio.
It's revealed in the animated series that Andy's mom's last name is Davis, but also Emily's last name isn't revealed. So, in theory, both Jessie's owner and Andy's mom are named Emily Davis. While what happened to Andy's dad remains a mystery, Andy's mom's name could have secretly been answered.
Kyle wears her old hat from Child's Play 2 in her appearance in Cult of Chucky. In Cape Queer, it is revealed that Kyle was able to overcome what happened to her as a teenager, and is happily married. In He is Risen Indeed, it is shown that Kyle lost an ear from the explosion at Charles Lee Ray's home.
