Bard went to his ancestral home of Dale at the foot of the Lonely Mountain.He rebuilt the ruined town and in TA 2944, he became King of Dale. Bard maintained good relations with the Dwarves of the Lonely Mountain and trade flowed freely up and down the River Running.
By the end of the Battle of the Five Armies, Thorin Oakenshield dies, and Bard buries him with his precious Arkenstone. His relationship with the dwarves is mended, and the Lakemen get their share of the treasure. Bard uses his portion to rebuild Dale, his generational home.
It's not known if Bard survived until the events of The Lord of the Rings, as they take place 60 years apart. But after his passing, it's known that his son Bain succeeded him as King of Dale.

Bard the Bowman is a character in J. R. R. Tolkien's The Hobbit. A Man of Laketown and a descendant of the ancient Lords of Dale, Bard manages to kill Smaug, the dragon, after which he becomes king of Dale.
Their deaths and Thorin's did not end Durin's line, although did end the branch which had Thror, Thrain, and Thorin Oakenshield. Thorin's cousin, Dain Ironfoot, became King after Thorin's death.
