In Insidious: The Red Door's final arc, the Lipstick-Face Demon succeeds at possessing Dalton. However, Josh and Dalton outsmart him by drawing him back inside The Further and shutting him behind the red door by painting it black in Dalton's painting.
In the 1960s, a teenage Elise sees Anna (who was locked in a room by Gerald) in the laundry room. When Gerald walked in, he saw Anna but pretended he saw nothing. After Elise stood up to Gerald and ran away, Gerald brutally murders Anna and puts her body in a suitcase in the ventilation shaft.
Elise Returns As A Ghost In Insidious: The Red Door's Ending
Given when the movie takes place, Elise can only appear at the end of Insidious: The Red Door as a ghost. She's already been dead over a decade after Josh strangled her when he was possessed by the Black Bride at the end of Insidious.
He does not seem to do that only for a sadistic sense of pleasure, as he feeds on the negative emotions that pulse from the suffering of others. As explained by Young Elise, The Key Bearer also seems determined to "open all doors" in The Further.
At first, the investigation leads to the reveal that Garza is actually a serial killer who has been keeping a young girl chained in his basement; however, after a crazed Garza is killed by Specs, it's further revealed that Garza was a puppet for Key Face, and that the demon had once possessed Elise's father, turning ...
In the end, Elise meets a girl named Allison who is in a "coma" and realizes something rising behind her. Elise is shocked and says "Oh my god!" gasping, hinting a sequel. The thing that was behind Allison is believed to be the red face demon as it made the same crackling sound as it did in Insidious 1.
Elise is killed at the end of the first movie by the Bride in Black, who has successfully possessed Josh. She reappears in the second movie as a spirit in the Further, where she helps Josh get back to his physical body and stop Parker from killing his family.
Elise realizes that like Ted, her father, Gerald, had also kidnapped women and held them in the secret room. The woman she saw as a girl, Anna, was actually alive then, not a ghost; she had escaped the hidden room and found a passage leading to the laundry room.

Josh meets his father's spirit, who guides him back to the living world.
Ultimately, the events of Insidious 2 are the reason why Josh and Renai got divorced. At the end of Insidious, it seems as though Josh has successfully rescued Dalton from The Further, however, in a shocking twist, he murders paranormal expert Elise.
Why doesn't Josh like his picture taken Insidious?
The more photographs taken of Josh, the closer the shadowy woman begins to get to Josh until she is inches away from him, explaining his fear of photos. Elise suggests that Josh should use his ability to find and help return Dalton's soul, to which Josh agrees.
The father-son duo successfully exit the hellish afterlife they were in, but not everything's done. Elise notices something off about Josh and takes a picture of him. At that point, she learns that Josh is actually being possessed by the Bride in Black. Before Elise can react, the spirit murders her.
Renai discovers Elise's corpse and sees the photograph she took. The photo reveals that Josh is now possessed by the ghost of the old woman from his childhood, the latter having slipped into his body when he confronted her in The Further.
To understand how the Red Door got opened for Dalton, fans will have to remember the Insidious movie timeline and Elise's pivotal connection to it. In Insidious: The Last Key, Elise inadvertently opened the Red Door when she went into The Further to save her niece Melissa and was trying to get back to the real world.
Christian forgives Elise and she gives him the whistle, they hug and Elise leaves for her home in California. In her sleep, Elise sees a vision of Dalton and the Lipstick Demon looming over him which frightens her awake. At that moment, her phone rings.
