Sodapop's fate On a DVD commentary, Rob Lowe said he asked S.E. Hinton where she saw his character, Sodapop, going after the events of "The Outsiders." He said she told him that Sodapop is drafted, goes to fight in Vietnam and dies there.
Two days later, Sodapop Curtis died in his home surrounded by family on the evening of January 16, 2084, at the age of 83, due to complications of Alzheimer's and a broken heart.
Soda is left by his girlfriend Sandy during the events of the novel. She moves away to Florida, pregnant with another man's child. Despite this, Sodapop still wants to marry her, love her, and take care of her. However, she still leaves him, and Soda is left devastated.
Darry and Ponyboy end up chasing after their brother, who eventually tells them that he is sick of their fighting. Sodapop runs out of the house to avoid witnessing another one of Darry and Pony's arguments. He is already upset about Sandy, and the fighting between his brothers pushes him over the edge.
Pony then comments that Sodapop and Two-Bit were arrested one night for doing flips downtown and walking on their hands. Pony says that the police arrested them for "disturbing the public." This is typical behavior for Sodapop, who is always rowdy.
What does Ponyboy realize about Sodapop at the end of the novel?
After finding out that Sodapop is upset because his letters to Sandy went unanswered, Ponyboy realizes that he “never had paid much attention to Soda's problems.” At the end of the novel, Sodapop is the character who finally unites the Curtis family, after he breaks down in tears over his brothers' constant fighting.
Pony has a pretty good impression of her, unlike his impressions of most of the Greaser girls he knows. When Pony learns that Sandy's pregnant—not with Soda's kid—and that Sandy's parents refused to let her marry Soda, he realizes Soda has problems too.
Sandy was pregnant, and her parents did not want her to marry Sodapop. They sent her to live with her grandmother, to keep her away from Sodapop and so she could have the baby in Florida. With Sandy's pregnancy, The Outsiders highlights Sodapop's sensitivity.

Although, the young lovebirds suddenly break up after Sandy tells Soda that she cheated on him and is pregnant with another man's baby. Despite her pregnancy, Sodapop still proposes to her, but Sandy movies to Florida with her grandmother instead.
History. Sodapop told Ponyboy he was sure he was going to marry Sandy. However, when she got pregnant, she left to go live with her grandmother in Florida. Soda later runs off, saying he hates being in the middle of his brothers' fighting, and it makes him feel more worse because she left him, and he loved her so much.
Rob Lowe, 59, played Sodapop Curtis, the middle brother of Darry and Ponyboy, who often made jokes to mask his true emotions. The Outsiders was Lowe's first major film, which launched him straight into the Brat Pack. He starred in films including St. Elmo's Fire (1985) and Wayne's World (1992).
Once they eventually decide to leave, the church catches fire, injuring Johnny, who dies in hospital. Unable to cope, Dally runs out in an emotional frenzy, robs a grocery store and ends up in a confrontation with the police, who gun him down, killing him.

How does Dally die in the outsiders? Dally is shot by police after robbing a grocery store with an unloaded gun. He is cornered by the police, and raises the gun at them. They shoot and kill him.
He wanted to marry her anyway, but she just left". Soda still loved Sandy even when it was evident that she had cheated on him, but Sandy didn't feel the same way about him. Soda wanted to marry her, but she just disappeared, and his letters to her were "returned unopened" (Chapter 12).
Sylvia is Dally's ex-girlfriend who cheated on him while he was in prison at the beginning of the novel. This was found out when Johnny pointed out that Dally had his ring back.
Soda loves Sandy. Yet in chapter 12, Darry tells Pony that "it wasn't Soda" who got Sandy pregnant. Through inference, we learn that although Soda adored her, Sandy was not been faithful to Soda; she got pregnant and apparently told Soda that the baby wasn't his.
Darry and Sodapop Curtis are Ponyboy's older brothers who, along with being greasers, are adjusting to life on their own. Darry has taken over the responsibility of guardianship, forfeiting college and working to enable the three of them to stay together.
Ponyboy asks Sodapop about Sandy and learns that she got pregnant and moved to Florida. Her parents refused to let her marry Sodapop because of his age, so Sandy left to live with her grandmother.
Ponyboy thinks he killed Bob. Darry tells Randy that Ponyboy is racked up physically and so emotionally stressed that he doesn't remember what really happened and that's why he thinks he killed Bob. Pony pretends he killed Bob and that Johnny isn't dead because he figured it wouldn't hurt as much.
After Johnny's death and Dally's departure, Ponyboy wanders through the hospital's halls in a daze. Pony is in denial about Johnny's death, and keeps repeating that he isn't dead. He leaves the hospital and roams the streets until a stranger picks him up and drives him home.
