In the film's retelling Tarzan's parents are killed by Sabor the leopard, and Kala saves the infant Tarzan from Sabor, not Kerchak. Her own child having been previously killed by the same leopard, Kala adopts Tarzan as her own, though Kerchak disapproves of this.
They are then found and killed by Sabor the leopard, though Tarzan survived ending up as an orphan. Kala later found their dead bodies along with cat-made paw-prints of (supposedly) their blood: evidence that Sabor had been responsible.

Is Tarzan based on Africa or India?
Edgar Rice Burroughs' novel, first published 100 years ago as Tarzan of the Apes, tells the story of John Clayton, a child born to a pair of shipwrecked aristocrats and raised by apes in the coastal jungles of equatorial Africa, eventually living out his days as the king of the jungle.
There is a popular theory that Anna and Elsa's mother and father didn't die on a shipwreck, and that they made their way to an island and gave birth to Tarzan. This theory has been touched on by the director, and he likes it, but it really does not make sense. Frozen is set sometime inbetween 1830 and 1840.

As he explained to co-director Jennifer Lee, Buck envisions Anna and Elsa's parents being shipwrecked off the coast of Africa and eventually giving birth to a boy we know as Tarzan. "In my little head, Anna and Elsa's brother is Tarzan," he told MTV. "That's my fun little world."
They get shipwrecked, and somehow they really washed way far away from the Scandinavian waters, and they end up in the jungle. They end up building a tree house and a leopard kills them, so their baby boy is raised by gorillas.
Clayton then mortally wounds Kerchak and battles Tarzan across the treetops. Although Tarzan spares Clayton's life and breaks his rifle, Clayton tries to kill him with his machete. Their battle comes to a cluster of vines, and Clayton tries to cut free when a vine becomes tangled around his neck, hanging him to death.
Speaking to MTV US, Frozen director confirmed that the sibling theory is true. The idea is that, instead of Anna and Elsa's parents dying in a shipwreck as 'Frozen 'would have you believe, they actually survived and washed up in a jungle - where they gave birth to baby Tarzan and lived in a tree.
