By the time Dell meets Phillip in The Upside, Phillip's wife has already died of cancer, and it is assumed that several years had passed since then. In reality, Phillippe's wife was still alive by the time Abdel began working as his caretaker, though she did die of cancer shortly thereafter.
“The Upside” follows the plot of “The Intouchables” with Phillip Lacasse (Bryan Cranston), a wealthy white man from New York City who is paralyzed from the neck down due to a paragliding accident. A few years later, his wife, who is also his caretaker, dies from cancer.
Bryan Cranston starred alongside Kevin Hart in the 2017 dramedy “The Upside,” based on the true story of a paralyzed billionaire who befriends a recently paroled convict and hires him as a caretaker.
However, during the meal, Lily admits that while she knew about Philip's condition, the whole thing wasn't what she was expecting. Philip becomes quietly offended and tries to leave, but he accidentally bumps into another patron, and then a waiter who spills hot coffee on his lap.
But after caring for Phillip, Dell realizes that there are much more important things in life. He starts caring for his ex-girlfriend and becomes more present in his son's life. By the end of the film, Dell is a genuine, caring person and Phillip is a man happy to be alive.

Did Kevin Hart really paraglide in The Upside?
Unlike Cranston, Hart did not fly in any of the scenes. As a result, filming Hart “paragliding” required some creativity, including a flying rig that hung from a crane, a shade structure simulating the glider's canopy, and a large fan for wind.
While attempting to evade the monster, Will hid in his backyard shed. He shot at the Demogorgon with a hunting rifle but was still transported to the parallel dimension. Will spent nearly a week in the Upside Down, and it was a miracle he managed to stay alive.

But given the typical feel-good nature, it may be surprising to learn with some final text stating Dell and Phillip remain friends to this day that The Upside is based on a true story. Technically, The Upside is a remake of French film The Intouchables, with the action moved from Paris to New York.

This is a remake of the French film The Intouchables (2011). In Germany and The Netherlands, it was the most successful French film in history. The same story has also been filmed as the Argentinian film Inseparables (2016).
What was Prince Philip's family like? Philip was born to Prince Andrew, a son of King George I of Greece, and Princess Alice. When he was an infant, his family was exiled, and it later disintegrated: his mother was institutionalized, his father left with his mistress, and Philip's four elder sisters married.
While out in the woods searching for clues, Nancy accidentally enters the alternate dimension known as The Upside-Down, from which she escapes with Jonathan's help. Shaken by the experience, Nancy asks Jonathan to stay the night in her room.
The Demogorgon was attracted by the scent, suddenly appearing behind her and pulling her into the Upside Down. Jonathan Byers unknowingly captured this moment on camera as he hid in the nearby foliage. Hurt and disoriented, Barb woke up in the Upside Down's version of the pool, which was empty.
Why does Philip decide to hire Dell as his caregiver?
He decides to hire a caregiver to help him navigate a life with the physical and emotional challenges he faces daily. This is where Kevin Hart (Dell) enters. Dell, a paroled convict in need of a job, has to get signatures to satisfy his parole officer's requirements.
The Upside appeals to mass audience erogenous zones (bankable star, humor, candy-coating issues) that's unapologetically feel-good while offering award season relief. It's a little long. The real anchor for the movie is their relationship, but it's super funny.
They are followed by police after Dell starts to speed up. He bets Philip that he can lose the cops, and he does for a moment until they corner him in the streets. They force Dell out of the car until he tells them that he was rushing to the hospital because Philip is having a seizure.
Barb's death implied that whatever the slug does didn't take, so the Mind Flayer reached out to Will instead. It could be that the Mind Flayer needed a younger host, or Barb may have simply died while the Demogorgon was attempting to infect her.
Will Byers: Will was found in the Upside Down with a tendril extending down his throat following his capture by the original Demogorgon (see Stage Six below). A month after returning home, Will coughed up a larva and washed it down his bathroom sink drain.
Will Byers. Young Will Byers was the first person to unwittingly visit the Upside Down. After playing Dungeons & Dragons with his friends, he embarked on the trip home only to be abducted by the Demogorgon and taken into the alternate dimension. The disappearance of Will set off the events of Stranger Things.
