In a state of exhaustion, when one of the birds gouged her cheek and narrowly missed her eye, Hedren sat down on the set and began crying. A physician ordered a week's rest. Hitchcock protested, according to Hedren, saying she was the only one left to film.

What caused The Birds to go crazy in The Birds?
The real cause of the birds' behavior was toxic algae, but that was not known back in the 1960s. In the film, the characters make reference to a similar bird attack "last year" in Santa Cruz, which is an implied reference to the Capitola attack.
The film took almost three years to complete before it was released in 1963. Hitchcock chose the Bodega Bay area for the foggy weather and skyline, which at that time was subdued and open. When the time came for shooting, however, Hitchcock despaired at the clear and sunny skies.
Most adults stop singing as they are no longer defending their territories or in search of a mate. Instead, they are busy rearing their young and teaching them how to find their own food before they fly south for the winter.
In a way, these songs are passed down from generations. With really low populations, the newborn birds don't really grow up listening to the same songs, so they don't really know what to sing -- at times even not enough to attract mates.

The original ending was supposed to be a lot more elaborate. Mission Family were supposed to drive through the town and see a lot more devastation and dead people and the Golden Gate bridge covered with birds,but they didn't have the budget for that.
