Mai and Ty Lee switched sides to help Zuko and Team Avatar escape from Azula, and their stories continue in the Avatar sequel comics. Though Mai reconnected with Zuko, she eventually broke up with him. Ty Lee stayed with the Kyoshi Warriors, using her chi blocking skills and becoming a legendary fighter with the group.
After her release from prison, she resumed her relationship with Zuko, although the graphic novels reveal that they break up a year later. No mention is made of her in The Legend of Korra so it's unknown if she is still alive, since The Legend of Korra takes place 70 years later.

But according to the creators, Mai is the one who ends up marrying Zuko, and the name Izumi means fountain, which goes back to the fountain incident when Zuko and Mai were kids.
