Katniss is tough, independent, resourceful, fiery, and skilled with a bow and arrow, and yet she also has a compassionate side and deep loyalty to those she loves.
But through the course of her journey, she reveals her INTJ personality type to the full. Determined, fearless and focussed, Katniss overcomes the immense challenges thrown at her by thinking strategically.
Katniss is devoted, loyal, and although she is driven by an intense desire to survive, she is more than willing to put herself into danger to protect the people she loves. Katniss was traumatized by the death of her father when she was 11, and she has been the sole breadwinner of her family since then.
Katniss isn't always particularly gentle and soft, but she also has a very compassionate and caring side. She can be really tough and removed when she needs to be, but when it comes to those she loves, she is always there to take care of them.
Peeta is repeatedly described as charming, generous, kind and likable, and possessing a self-deprecating sense of humour. He first confuses and later inspires Katniss with his determination to maintain his identity while inside the arena and his refusal to become a "piece" in the Capitol's game.
It took time for Peeta to break out of that conditioning, and even when the possibility existed that Peeta could be a danger to Katniss, the two of them still elected to be together and build a future in a post-Hunger-Games world. Their love for one another is evident.
While she manages to escape both Games with her life, she is left suffering significant psychological distress and displays symptoms consistent with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Given the situations she is living under, her depression and inability to cope makes some sense, but it leaves Katniss with a lot of responsibility. It's definitely unfair that Katniss has to worry about providing and caring for her family.
Weakness: She isn't always honest about her true emotions
However, at times, this can be a weakness. She has a difficult time understanding how she really feels about things, especially when it comes to relationships, and she's even worse at expressing those feelings.
Katniss's focus on survival and her family's safety prevented her from fully considering romance, but her feelings for Peeta and Gale diverged in the end. Katniss ultimately chose Peeta because he understood her trauma and she didn't want to lose him, proving her love for him.
In the first book, she is 16 years old. She is unremarkable in District 12, and some make fun of her for being scrawny and underfed. Her father died when she was young, leaving Katniss, her mother, and her younger sister alone in the world.
INFJ, also known as the advocate, counselor, or idealist, is the rarest type of personality in the general population. It represents about 1.5% of the general population in the United States. INFJ stands for: introversion.
Katniss is a very introverted person who prefers spending her time alone to hanging out with some friends. She rarely talks, belongs to no group of friends at school, and puts an indifferent mask because she does not want people read her mind too easily.
“Katniss was an introvert and a survivor,” Lawrence told Empire magazine about the big difference between Katniss and Lucy. “She was quite quiet and stoic, you could almost say [she was] asexual. Lucy Gray is the opposite.
People who suffer from PTSD can also experience trouble sleeping, which both Katniss and Peeta deal with, exhibit self-destructive or reckless behavior or can be aggressive and irritable. Both tributes also have trouble controlling themselves and often react aggressively to situations that upset them.
Katniss comes close to crying, something she knows she mustn't do because it would indicate weakness to the other tributes and make her look vulnerable; thankfully, Haymitch distracts the crowd and the cameras by stumbling off stage.
While Katniss did experience hearing loss after the explosion in THG, the Capitol fixed that after the games therefore, she didn't need to wear a hearing aid…but that's really one of the only instances where the movies didn't underrepresent the disabilities shown in the book.
Katniss spends the rest of the day crying on her bed. She believes that the Gamemakers will punish her for what she's done, that they'll make her an Avox and cut out her tongue. She imagines all of the possible scenarios, but is most fearful that the Capitol people will go after Prim and her mother.
When her husband dies in a mining accident, however, she falls into a daze, unable to work and take care of her children. As a result, Katniss is forced to grow up quickly to support the family and can never bring herself to fully trust her mother again.
For example, Katniss Everdeen has a fatal flaw of valuing others (beginning with her sister) and putting herself last. She does this numerous times, especially with Peeta. This major flaw in her character nearly gets her killed several times. She must overcome it to survive.
Katniss here's this and understands that even though she may not love Peeta (then) that it's one less person who has to die. (At least that's what I have always thought.) Katniss realizes that if she pretends to be in love with Peeta people will want the capitol to let them survive.
It's only implied that they get it on via snuggling and other affectionate acts in close quarters — but if you have read the book, they really imply that they took their relationship to the next level.
Before the Capitol battle, Gale had explained to Katniss his series of bombs designed to feed off human compassion: a small bomb would go off, and then when medical aid rushed in, a second bomb would go off, killing those people as well. Incidentally, it's this exact type of bomb that took Prim's life.
