Sylvie Laufeydottir, born Loki Laufeydottir, is a Princess of Asgard who caused a Nexus event as a child and escaped the Time Variance Authority. Sylvie hid throughout the timelines, while seeking revenge against the TVA and the Time-Keepers.
As a child, she was removed from her branching timeline by the TVA, though escaped before being pruned and sent to the Void. Sylvie devoted her life to bringing down the TVA and its enigmatic creators, the Time Keepers, though set her sights on He Who Remains after they were revealed to be a fiction.
The TVA had taken Sylvie from Asgard as a child because she caused a Nexus Event that threatened the stability of the Sacred Timeline, meaning she had spent her entire life on the run from the omnipotent organization, though the exact nature of her Nexus Event wasn't actually revealed.
In 2077, amidst the destruction of the moon Lamentis-1, a stranded Sylvie and Loki form a romantic connection. This creates a unique branched timeline, a "Nexus Event" perpendicular to the Sacred Timeline, which alerts the TVA who come to rescue and arrest the pair.

What does Sylvie want in Loki?

Initially, Sylvie is out for nothing more or less than revenge, slaughtering TVA agents in her single-minded pursuit of those in charge. But her quest became far more complicated in Season 1, both because of the deepening mystery of the TVA's true nature and because of her growing attachment to Loki.
Loki and Sylvie's Romantic Relationship Was Totally Abandoned. After Sylvie kills He Who Remains, the timeline branches out and the multiverse is created. Instead of recognizing that her decision was erroneous, Sylvie refuses to help Loki when he asks for assistance restoring the TVA.
Is the TVA Good or Bad? The TVA is kind of both hero and villain, depending on your perspective. He Who Remains tells Loki the TVA is good because it's keeping out Kang variants and preventing multiversal war from happening.

Loki is considered a trickster god, known for being neither fully good nor evil since his main aim was always to create chaos. Despite his father being a giant, he is still counted a member of the Aesir—a tribe of deities including Odin, Frigg, Tyr, and Thor.
In the films, his most prominent relationships are with his family, notably his adoptive brother Thor (see: Thorki) and his adoptive mother, Queen Frigga. In his TV series, Loki and a female version of himself called Sylvie fall in love (see: Sylki) and their relationship becomes a prominent point of the show.
Finally, Wright points out that fans should consider Loki's endless time loops and epic sacrifice at the end of Season 2 as a very real representation of the "love" he feels for Sylvie, and friends like Mobius (Owen Wilson):

She isn't an alternate version, one that has escaped the main timeline. She is the Loki we all know and love. You have to remember, Marvel based their God of Mischief on Norse mythology in which the trickster god is genderfluid and often appears as a man or woman.
