Kratos' Abdomen Scar Is Self-Inflicted Defying Athena's wishes to keep it for herself, Kratos impaled himself with the Blades of Olympus, releasing the power of hope and entrusting it to humanity. Kratos ran himself through, losing a considerable amount of blood and leaving a large open wound.
In the series lore, the scar is eventually revealed to be the result of a childhood encounter with the Olympian god Ares, while the tattoo is a tribute to his dead brother Deimos, who had similar birth markings.
In GoW II he was stabbed by Zeus and taken to the Underworld. It was there that Gaia healed his stomach (first scar) and he escaped the Underworld. You can see the scar in GoW II. At the end of GoW III, Kratos gets stabbed again by the Blade of Olympus, but this time by his own hands.

Setting aside that he is a demigod, all of his men would look similarly fit. This was only the first half of his life, however, and his hardships were only beginning. He only has the one major scar from those days on his body.

Initially, the name John Kratos was nothing more than a joke shared on Twitter by The Guardian's gaming editor, Keza MacDonald. But as is the case with so much internet content these days, it soon gained its own lifeforce, eventually leading to PlayStation canonising the name.

Just before she died, Athena told Kratos that he was compelled to kill Zeus just as Zeus did to Cronos, for Kratos was Zeus' son. This was the cycle Zeus had mentioned when he killed Kratos before.
