When it comes to writing a story, there should be a problem, or conflict. In the movie Shrek, one of the conflicts was Shrek's fear of not being liked or respected by other people (especially by Princess Fiona) because he is an ogre. That is called the inner conflict; it is what goes on inside the character.
A character struggles against his village or some established type of prejudice, or unfair rules or laws. Example: In the movie Shrek, Shrek struggles against all human beings, who consider him a horrid and mean outcast. Example: In the movie The Perfect Storm, the crew struggles against the ocean.
Also note that the inciting incident is all the Fairy Tale creatures being banished to Shrek's swamp. He wants to figure out why they're suddenly invading his swamp. His life was normal (chillin' in the swamp) then got set to chaos (which he needs to restore) the minute the creatures invade his swamp.
The first one is love. Shrek proves that anyone can find love and it is what inside that counts. He is viewed by others in the film as being ugly and unlovable but eventually the most beautiful princess falls in love with him and luckily, she ends up being an ogre as well!
Climax: Shrek stops Fiona from marrying Lord Farquaad and discovers that she has been hiding a secret that at night she turns into a green monster herself. Falling Action: Shrek and Fiona confirm their love and both she and the fairy tale creatures are saved from Farquaad.

She explains that when she was a child a witch cast a spell on her, causing her to transform into an ogre when the sun goes down, and that the curse can only be broken by true love's first kiss. Fiona is convinced that Farquaad is this true love, but Donkey suggests that maybe she should be with Shrek instead.
