In the movie Shrek, one of the conflicts was Shrek's fear of not being liked or respected by other people (especially by Princess Fiona) because he is an ogre. That is called the inner conflict; it is what goes on inside the character.
Shrek is the protagonist and hero in the film Shrek. In the beginning of this film, Shrek struggles with accepting himself as an ogre. He is essentially shunned by society, and this causes him to really re-evaluate all of the characteristics he once prided himself on.

The movie is a marvelous fairy tale, with a thrilling quest and a happily-ever-after ending. Shrek has the great themes of enduring myths, about believing in yourself, being loved for the person you really are, and good triumphing over evil.

Purpose: The original goal of the quest is to gain the swamp and the freedom of being alone back. However, the journey fundamentally changed Shrek and his new purpose was to save the person who saw him for who he was and not the stereotype that surrounded him.
The movie, Shrek, displays several examples of symbolic interactionism through fictional creatures. The symbolic interactions in this movie explain the relationships between ogres and society, ogres and fairytale creatures, and fairytale creatures and society, as odd as they may be in the fictional world.
