Meanwhile, Peeta and Katniss live in District 12 for as much of their lives as we see. The entirety of Panem is rebuilt to support each district being able to get what they need to live supported and happy lives. All in all, it's a bittersweet ending, but one that closes the door on these characters.

In the beginning, Katniss did love Gale. But around the middleish/ending of the story, she finds herself loving Peeta instead. The main reason, though: Gale and Coin were designing a bomb, and Prim was killed by the bomb. After she died, Gale realized it was over with KAtniss.
Katniss was actually revolted by the idea of the Games, but voted in favour in order to make Coin think she was supportive of her. Haymitch seemed to notice this, and voted in favour because of Katniss, which makes her realise that they are very alike after all.
She outruns the fire but ends up in a section of the arena in which the Gamemakers shoot fireballs at her, and one catches her calf as she runs. She puts the fire out with her hands, leaving them mildly burned and her right calf much more severely injured.

They aren't a very wealthy District and are often overlooked by the Capitol. It is said that the citizens of this District are "hardworking and down to earth."
