"[In] 'The Man who was Tarzan,' Thomas Llewellan Jones details the history of one William Mildin, a British noble who was shipwrecked on the African coast when he was 11 years old. For sixteen years Mildin lived with the apes and natives of the Jungle before finding his way to civilisation.
Character biography. Tarzan is the son of a British lord and lady who were marooned on the coast of Africa by mutineers. When Tarzan was an infant, his mother died, and his father was killed by Kerchak, leader of the ape tribe by whom Tarzan was adopted.
Edgar Rice Burrough's masterpiece, Tarzan Of The Apes first appeared in the pulp "All-Star Magazine" in 1912 and was published as a book in 1914. Christened Tarzan (white-skin) by his ape mother Kala, the character was enormously popular and Burroughs wrote 24 sequels up into the 1940s.
In defining Jane Porter, the Victorian lady who impresses Tarzan with her creativity and enthusiasm, the Disney artists were inspired by real-life jungle conservationists Jane Goodall and Dian Fossey, who both lived with and studied gorillas and chimpanzees.

Pretty sure this tale has you wondering about Jane. But sadly for fans of Tarzan's lady friend who first appeared in Tarzan of the Apes — A Romance of the Jungle in 1912 in All-Story, she does appear to be a pure figment of Burroughs' imagination.
According to a Cast Member who played the iconic Jack Sparrow in Disneyland Park, one character was cut from the lineup of walk-around characters due to multiple accounts of sexual harassment. The male character they had pulled was Tarzan. He moved around the tree house dressed in just a butt flap.
