These strong female characters certainly have their weaknesses; they wouldn't be very interesting characters if they didn't. Elsa can be distant to the people she loves, she has trouble accepting help, and she fails to recognize her own limitations.
Elsa fears she will not be accepted by her sister or her town. This feeling worsens as her parents pass away. Now with no one having knowledge of her powers the pressure increases for her to stay hidden. As she becomes required to attend her coronation, she begins overthinking how she will keep her powers hidden.
In Disney's original script, Elsa was actually the villain of the movie. She was conceptualized quite differently, and intentionally cursed Arendelle with an eternal winter. Later, the writers switched up the script so that Elsa could become a more nuanced, complex character, rather than a one-dimensional villain.
Beyond that, Elsa is a very relatable person. While young children might not be able to appreciate the complex past that molded her character, they can understand that Elsa is overall misunderstood, and this makes her a super interesting character. Her development in Frozen II is even cooler.

Elsa was a good queen, and she did her best to protect Arendelle and lead her people. However, she never seemed to fully enjoy or feel comfortable in this role. In a lot of ways, it made sense when she decided to let Anna take over as queen while she herself would provide a connection to the spirits.

Elsa's death in Frozen 2 is the result of her going "too far" into the Ahtohallan and being overwhelmed by the magic — in other words, she "drowned" in it. The symbolic explanation for why Elsa froze is more straightforward. Elsa freezes in response to the trauma of discovering her family's colonial past.
Throughout the Frozen franchise, Elsa creates and manipulates water into ice and controls the weather, such as when she plunges Arendelle into the depths of winter. She's also able to freeze a person's mind or heart, a state which she accidentally inflicts on Anna twice in the first movie.
