Charles performs a Voodoo spell using an amulet, the Heart of Damballa, that transfers his consciousness out of his human body and into the doll's "body." With that, Charles Lee Ray dies and lives again as Chucky, the killer doll ... and he digs it!
It's simple but effective: the doll is inhabited by the soul of serial killer Charles Lee Ray. After being shot and taking refuge in a toy store, Ray chants a voodoo spell that transfers his soul into one of the Good Guy dolls (aka, the Chucky doll form we've come to know).
Chucky made his first appearance in the 1988 film Child's Play. In the film, a serial killer named Charles Lee Ray, aka Chucky (Brad Dourif) uses a voodoo ritual inside a toy store to transfer his soul into a Good Guy doll to escape from Detective Mike Norris (Chris Sarandon).
Eight years after Chucky's second demise, the Play Pals company resumes manufacturing Good Guy dolls and re-opens the abandoned factory. A splash of blood from Chucky's corpse is inadvertently mixed in with the molten plastic being used to produce the dolls, reviving him in an updated body.
Desperate to know his parents, Glen escapes Psychs and tracks the Chucky and Tiffany dolls to a prop room in Hollywood. Glen uses the Heart of Damballa, a voodoo amulet, to resurrect them.

What's Chucky's weakness?
Weaknesses. Chucky isn't without his flaws, as he is known to be very impatient and rather arrogant. Chucky's Voodoo abilities only work under specific circumstances and have requirements for them to work. Despite being a doll, he has spent so long in his doll body that he has turned anatomically human.
Two years after the murderous doll was destroyed, Chucky is resurrected by the Play Pals company to prove there is no fault with the dolls. As a result of Andy Barclay blaming Chucky for the murders committed, the company has suffered.

In an homage to “A Clockwork Orange" in "Chucky" Season 2, the kids captured a Chucky doll and put him through a brainwashing exercise that ultimately resulted in the evil doll finding violence abhorrent. As a result, his persona changed from one of murder and toxicity to one of almost childlike innocence.
He was in love with Sarah, but she was married and pregnant with Nica. Chucky killed Sarah's husband and kidnapped her some time after the funeral. After Sarah rejects him, Chucky stabs her in the stomach before fleeing from the police. The stab to Sarah's stomach is what caused Nica to be born a paraplegic.
