Why do Marines like the Punisher?
It's his duty to protect the innocent. It's his burden to have to do terrible things to make it so. That's something many troops can get behind. It also helps that he truly encapsulates the rest of the minor moments that come with being a veteran.

What does the Punisher skull mean in the military?
The vigilante anti-hero is fundamentally a critique of the justice sysytem, an example of social failure, so when cops put Punisher skulls on their cars or members of the military wear Punisher skull patches, they're basically sides with an enemy of the system. They are embracing an outlaw mentality.

After he left the military in 2009, Kyle continued to sport the logo, often wearing it on his signature cap in interviews. And he explained how it came to be his thing in his autobiography. “We called ourselves the Punishers,” the sniper wrote. “He's a real bad a** who rights wrongs, delivering vigilante justice.
He married his wife, Maria, who was already pregnant with their first child, before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, eventually rising to the rank of Captain.
“We all thought what the Punisher did was cool: He righted wrongs. He killed bad guys. He made wrongdoers fear him,” Kyle's memoir reads. “We spray-painted [the Punisher skull] on our Hummers and body armor, and our helmets and all our guns.
In the Marvel Universe, Frank Castle (aka the Punisher) has always been a fan of Captain America. No matter how many times he feuded with the Avengers, he always stood down against the Sentinel of Liberty due to a healthy respect for the first man to wear the iconic mantle, Steve Rogers.
