At the beginning of the Third Age, Elrond married Celebrían, daughter of Galadriel. They had three children: twin sons, Elladan and Elrohir, and a daughter, Arwen. Elrond's marriage to Celebrían ended in tragedy. Celebrían was traveling to Lothlórien when she was captured by Orcs and tormented by them.
In the Third Age, Elrond and Celebrían met when Celeborn and Galadriel traveled to Rivendell when fleeing from Sauron's Sacking of Eregion. This is when Elrond and Celebrían met and fell in love, but said nothing. Eighteen hundred years later, Elrond and Celebrían opened up about their feelings, and they married.
Because Elrond married Celebrian, the daughter of Celeborn and Galadriel, they are his parents-in-law, and Arwen is their granddaughter. That's the simplest answer. Galadriel and Celeborn are the respective grandchildren of Olwë and Elmo, the younger brothers of Elu Thingol. This makes them second cousins.

Aragorn was a descendant of Elros Tar-Minyatur through the line of the Lords of Andúnië to Elendil, High King of Arnor and Gondor. Like all of the kings before him, he was related to Elrond through the House of Elros.
It's a bit of a complicated situation, but Elrond and Galadriel are first cousins removed by three, on their mother and father's side. In fact, Elrond goes on to marry Galadriel's daughter, Celebrian, which would make her his mother-in-law as well.
Yet, since Tolkien does give family trees for other important Elves in the book, such as Galadriel and Elrond, it's clear that Galadriel is not Legolas's mother. (Besides, she is one of the Noldor, not a Silvan or Sindar Elf.)
Galadriel was one of the Ñoldor who came to Middle-earth wishing to see the lands and rule a realm of her own. She came with the second host of Elves from Aman with Fingolfin and Finrod. In Doriath, she and Celeborn fell in love and married.
In other versions, Celebrían wedded Elrond in TA 2500, but in TA 2600, she was slain (not captured) by the Orcs in the Misty Mountains. Her children were Elladan and Elrohir, and Finduilas (later Arwen).
Legolas came to the Council of Elrond in Rivendell, the great meeting held by the Elf lord Elrond, as a messenger from his father to discuss the escape of Gollum.
For those that haven't read Tolkien's work, it's easy to see why many audiences suspect Gandalf and Galadriel are in love. After all, many of their interactions in The Hobbit trilogy practically scream romance. However, their relationship remains purely platonic in Tolkien's source material.
Though neither is someone you'd wish to annoy, Galadriel is generally considered more powerful than Elrond in Lord of the Rings. Not only is she older than her Rivendell counterpart, but Galadriel witnessed the light from Valinor's Two Trees, giving her a mystic quality.
Lying to the high king should be a bad idea, but Galadriel sought vengeance. With that in mind, withholding the truth worked to her advantage. If she had outed Sauron, the Elves would have needed to leave Middle-earth, and Sauron would have won. So, in this case, lying was her best option.
What is the age difference between Galadriel and Elrond?
Elrond's was born nearly 600 years after Galadriel, but he was born as a half-elf, and so until he made the choice to become an elf, he aged at a faster rate, though still slower than mortals. Tolkien says that his initial 24 "growth years" took 24 sun years, after which each life-years took five sun years.
Through her great-grandmother, Idril, Arwen was a descendant of King Turgon of the Noldor. Through her mother, she was the granddaughter of the Elf-queen Galadriel of Lothlórien. Through both of her parents, Arwen was a direct descendant of the ancient Elven House of Finwë.

The story was abandoned, but Tolkien reused the characters and events. Isildur features briefly in voiced-over flashback sequences of Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. The video game Middle-earth: Shadow of War departs from Tolkien's narrative by having Sauron make Isildur into a Nazgûl or ringwraith.
He did not want to see his daughter Arwen married to Aragorn, a mortal, and did his best to stop her from following her heart. Not only did he treat Aragorn– and the race of men in general– with contempt, but he went as far as lying to Arwen about what he saw of her future.
