Originally known as Melkor, Morgoth is essentially the Lucifer of Tolkien's story. Like the devil, Morgoth was one of the first children created by the God of Tolkien's world, but succumbed to jealousy and greed, especially over the creation of other races, and was duly disowned by his fellow Valar.
His theft of the Silmarils and wars against Elves and Men encompassed much of the history of the late First Age. Eventually, Morgoth was bound in chains by the Valar and thrown into the Void, leaving the permanent damage his evils had done, and his former lieutenant Sauron, to trouble the world.
His rebellion against Eru is creative, as Melkor is impatient for the void of the world to be filled with things. But his creativity becomes destructive, as it is tainted with pride. "His desire to create other beings for his glory" turns into a desire for servants and slaves to follow his own will.
However, the mere fact that the Valar didn't prioritize perusing Sauron proved he was a much lesser threat than Morgoth. It made perfect sense because Morgoth was a Valar, and Sauron was only a Maia. So, while Sauron was evil, Morgoth was clearly much worse.
Sauron hated the way Arda was run. He was the enemy of the Valar, because he thought they did a poor job organizing it. Morgoth was the GREATEST enemy of the Valar, and the most awesome being in the universe, and thus he became Sauron's boss. And then he corrupted Sauron, and made him evil, and so he was lost.
Morgoth clearly does have a motive, having a great deal of pride, desiring the power of creation that Eru Ilúvatar possessed, and becoming bitter for being the only one with it. He also wished to have power over Arda and began to destroy it when he was refused this.

In The Silmarillion, Tolkien tells us about this brief period, in which Sauron was regretful of his servitude precisely for knowing the fate of Morgoth and wanting to avoid it for himself.
Ultimately, the only being more powerful than Morgoth in his prime was Eru Ilúvatar. Only the combined effort of the Valar could stop Morgoth, and only after countless battles. Sauron might have bested his mentor under certain circumstances, but Morgoth is the greater Dark Lord by every metric.
It was said that Morgoth hated and feared the House of Fingolfin the most of the three Houses of the sons of Finwe, and he feared most Fingolfin's son Turgon, as it was prophesised that from the House of Turgon would his doom come.
While not appearing in the film series (most likely because he no longer existed in the world at the time of the said series because of his banishment to the Void in the War of Wrath in The Silmarillion), Morgoth's most powerful servants, such as Sauron, still thrive, and Morgoth was mentioned in The Lord of the Rings ...
Was there ever a queen for Melkor/Morgoth? There was never a “queen” for Morgoth. Morgoth was not the type to have a wife. However, in an early version of the Legendarium, Morgoth did have a child with a female, though what exactly the relationship was was never really explained.
Defeated by the Host of Valinor in the War of Wrath, Morgoth was banished from Middle-earth into the Timeless Void, though it was prophesied that he would one day return.
His most direct legacy would be that of his second-in-command, Sauron, who took up the mantle of Dark Lord following his master's fall. Sauron would command many of the same forces that Morgoth had created in his time. Morgoth was the bringer of evil and darkness onto Middle-earth.
Morgoth was taken to Aman and tried for his crimes. In the end, the Valar un-housed Morgoth by beheading him and "thrust him through the Door of Night", beyond the Walls of the World and into the Timeless Void.
"So I think in his pitch to Galadriel, it cannot mean that he loves her or that there's any kind of romantic relationship. There should be no ambiguity around the fact that Sauron is evil — he's terrible, and he's using Galadriel to enhance his power."
After the downfall of Morgoth, Sauron continually strove to conquer Middle-earth throughout the Second and Third Ages. In the Second Age, under the guise of Annatar, he deceived the Elves of Eregion, who under his guidance had created the Rings of Power, whilst he secretly forged the One Ring in Mount Doom.
Well basically Sauron was terrified of the Valar and knew that it wasn't even remotely possible to free Morgoth from them. The Valar were far above him in every way as he was only Maiar, and his only way of standing against them was when Morgoth was at the helm, which still wasn't enough.
The second prophecy of Mandos (later removed from The Silmarillion by Christopher Tolkien) states that at the End of Time, Morgoth would wage a final battle against the Valar, the Final Battle, and that Túrin Turambar reincarnated would plunge Gurthang into Morgoth's heart and defeat him once and for all, exterminating ...
6 Gandalf. As previously stated, Gandalf is a Maia and is therefore superior to Elves regarding power. Still, this isn't to say that an elf couldn't develop enough skill and power to defeat a Maia. As a bearer of one of the Three Elven Rings (Nenya), Galadriel would have an edge against Maiar like Saruman and Radagast.
There's no question that Sauron is among the strongest beings in Middle-earth, so powerful that even when defeated, he lay dormant and gathered strength in non-corporeal form. Sauron poured his power and will into the One Ring so that as long as it existed, he could never be truly defeated.
Morgoth, the first to reign terror upon Middle-earth, was more powerful than Sauron and commanded an army of dragons and Balrogs. While both Morgoth and Sauron were cunning, Morgoth's rule and terror lasted longer and his corruption spread further, making him more formidable in the Lord of the Rings universe.
Because of all the changes in the legendarium, there isn't a definitive answer as to where the Orcs came from. However, Morgoth corrupting the Elves is the most popular theory among fans. After all, it was what Saruman told his Uruk-hai chief.
