A theory suggests that Brett's associate actually had a fake gun but didn't know it, which explains why he “missed” all his shots and why the revolver on the gun didn't move when he shot – plus, he was too close to Jules and Vincent to completely miss them.
Most likely nothing more than friendship. Vincent and Mia had good chemistry and after dinner and dancing, he wanted to give her way more than a foot massage. Why is Mia Wallace (Uma Thurman) the only one on the poster ? Because the "pulp fiction" paperback books the movie is patterned after typically featured a sexy woman on the cover. The prominent position of the gun alerts the reader that there will be plenty of violence as well.
He calls Butch a “palooka” which is a boxing-related insult, meaning, basically, a fighter who's not good at fighting, following that up with “Punchy” in a mocking tone.
It turns out, we have an answer, and it's been known online for a while now. I was researching something completely unrelated when I stumbled on a strange fact that kind of blew my mind: Butch, the boxer played by Bruce Willis, is the character who keyed Vega's car.
Those with an understanding of how boxing bets work have explained that it was financially better for Butch to bet on himself, betray Marsellus, and run away with the money, though the question remains as to why he took such a big risk, as Marsellus and company were obviously going to retaliate.
On their way back, Jules talked to Vincent about surviving when one of Brett's men opened fire on them. Vincent turned around to ask Marvin's opinion and accidentally shot him in the face. Though it wasn't explicit in the movie, Marvin was Jules' informant, which is why they didn't kill him initially.
Most notably the scene in which a man is shot in the head while sitting in a car and there's a large explosion of blood and the car and people in it get covered with blood and brain matter. They later spend a scene cleaning it up. A man injects heroin into his arm.
Why Pulp Fiction Isn't In Chronological Order. While Quentin Tarantino's decision to tell the Pulp Fiction plot out of chronological order was partially stylistic, as he had just done so for the timeline of 1992's Reservoir Dogs, the nonlinear format also has a purpose in making the entire story more compelling.
