Katniss is rendered deaf in one ear after she blows up the Careers' supplies, and she doesn't regain any hearing on her left side until afterwards when the Capitol gives her a hearing aid.
Summary and Analysis Part 2: Chapter 17. The explosions knock the wind out of Katniss and cause her to lose hearing in both of her ears. She knows that the Careers will be coming back to see what's become of their camp, but she can't stand.
In the book, blood streams from Katniss' ear, leaving her permanently deaf in her left ear. She doesn't regain hearing until the Capitol fixes her with a replacement aid after winning the Hunger Games.
Katniss is too dizzy after the blast to walk. She also can't hear out of her left ear. Hiding her fear because she knows the cameras are on her, she crawls as quickly as she can back to her hiding place and gets there just as Cato and the others return.
With a single arrow, Katniss kills the boy from District 1, who speared Rue, and takes Rue's hand. Rue makes Katniss promise that she'll win for both of them, and then asks Katniss to sing her a song. Katniss sings a lullaby from her district, and when she's finished, the mockingjays pick up her song.
To the knowledge of Panem's citizens, District 13 was completely destroyed by the Capitol during the First Rebellion, and it remained inhabitable during the events of the main series. At least, that's what they were led to believe. As revealed in Catching Fire, District 13 was very much up and running.
Charlotte Sparke Honestly there is no cannon for either Marvel or Rue and personally I believe they just wanted the moment to be a sacred and special moment in the movie. It shows the death of Katniss's ally and only friend in the arena. Adding a cannon would have ruined the muse of the scene.
Katniss spends the night caring for Peeta, who is feverish because of the infection. In the morning, he keeps trying to be playfully romantic, but Katniss won't play along. Later that day, Katniss sees that Peeta's leg is getting worse. The infection is spreading.
She takes off, hears a knife approaching from her right, and knocks it away with her bow. She turns and hits Clove with an arrow in the arm. A second knife slices Katniss across the forehead, and as the blood runs down her face, Clove knocks Katniss to the ground, pinning her.
Katniss goes along with Caesar's suggestion but tries to keep the focus on Peeta. She finds out, too, that Peeta lost his leg and gets her first look at his prosthetic. Caesar, as expected, asks Katniss about the berries, and she struggles to get the right words out, but, afterward, Haymitch says she was perfect.

Peeta urges Katniss to run and stays to fight fellow tribute Cato while she escapes. He survives the encounter with Cato but suffers a stab wound on his leg. He camouflages himself into the rocks and mud alongside a riverbank, slowly dying of blood poisoning until Katniss finds him days later.
In the film, Thresh's odds of winning change from 10–1 to 11–1. Afterward, they increase from 11–1 to 8–1. In The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2, Katniss states that Cato killed Thresh. However, this is not in-line with the film continuity, as Thresh was killed by the wolf mutts in the first film.
Katniss rarely sings because it reminds her of her father, but she now remembers a morbid song that her father taught her: “The Hanging Tree.” This moment in the story is significant in multiple ways.
Katniss said goodbye to a teary Effie Trinket just before entering the arena for the Quarter Quell in the Catching Fire book, and didn't see her again until the preparations for President Snow's execution in Mockingjay.
When Katniss wakes up hours later, she notices that Peeta's fever has gotten worse. She checks his leg wound and finds that he has blood poisoning—which will kill him if it goes untreated.
In the 74th Hunger Games, Clove was the only Career tribute who came close to killing Katniss twice — at the Bloodbath and at the Feast, and certainly seemed to have a deep hatred for her, perhaps because Katniss received a higher score than her.
Clove figures among the favorites to win the games eventually won by Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), though the 15-year-old knife-thrower meets a grisly end at the hands of District 11's Thresh (Dayo Okeniyi) in a sequence that is both longer and more meaningful in the book.
It's a vial. At first, Katniss thinks it's anti-infection medicine meant to cure Peeta, but she smells and tastes it and recognizes that it's sleep syrup. She understands why Haymitch sent it. She mixes the medicine in with some mashed-up berries and mint leaves and has Peeta eat it.
Peeta thanks Katniss for finding him and she says that he would have done the same. He talks about what Katniss should do if he doesn't make it back. She's worried that he might die, and to keep him from speaking of such things, she kisses him. It's her first kiss.
Katniss begins to wake from a deep sleep. She believes she's at home, that her mother is stroking her hair, but instead she finds herself in a cold, damp cave. For a moment, she's alarmed, but then relaxes at the sight of Peeta. The medicine worked, and he is recovering quickly.
Katniss never hallucinates about her dad's death after being stung by tracker jackers. Rue's dad doesn't start a riot in District 11 after his daughter's death. Haymitch doesn't convince the Game Maker to change the solo victor rule.
When Peeta informed Katniss that they had "a shadow", Rue peeked out from behind a corner, and Katniss and Peeta smiled at her in response. She managed to get a seven out of twelve in her private session with the Gamemakers.
Peeta used the dyes to paint a picture of Rue after Katniss covered her with flowers when she died. He says he wants to hold them accountable for killing Rue, and Effie tells him that that kind of thinking is forbidden. Katniss then tells the team she hung a dummy of Seneca Crane.
