The forest is a place some citizens of District 12 venture to hunt or gather food. In the fall, some “brave souls” would sneak into the woods to harvest apples. Katniss and Gale entered the forest far more regularly, hunting to provide for their families.
Katniss puts on her clothes to go hunting. The area where she and her family live is called the Seam, and it's part of District 12. They are at the edge of the district, which is enclosed by a high fence, and Katniss often crawls under the fence and enters the woods outside, where she forages and hunts.

Though her family is now very wealthy and has plenty of food to eat due to her having won the Hunger Games, Katniss still illegally hunts every day in the woods outside of District 12 because she needs to provide food for Gale's family.

Why isn t Katniss allowed to hunt?
Notably, she is responsible for feeding her family, which she does by hunting and foraging, skills she learned from her father before his death in a mine explosion years earlier. Hunting, however, is illegal and punishable by death. Katniss does it anyway, indicating a rebellious streak in her.
The next morning, they head out to hunt, but Peeta is loud and scares away all of the animals, so they separate. He goes to gather roots and berries, while Katniss searches for prey. They work out a bird whistle to signal one another that they're okay, and when Peeta doesn't answer, Katniss runs to find him.
Katniss remembers the hunting skills he taught her. She refers to his book for instructions on the plants she can eat. Her father's influence is seeped into every page when she is hunting in the woods.
Skills. Katniss is a highly skilled archer, hunter, and trapper, having learned these from her father and Gale (Who were both excellent hunters), honed to keep her family from starving. She uses her archery skills during the pre-games judging and receives a score of 11 (out of a possible 12).
Due to the horror of his Games, his grief over his family's and girlfriend's deaths, and the overwhelming guilt he felt from being obligated to participate in the Games he hated while each and every one of his mentored tributes died in them, Haymitch turned to alcoholism to cope with his issues and feelings.
Their roles as star-crossed lovers help them gain sponsors and survive the games. Once the games begin, Peeta forms alliances with the Careers, which Katniss does not initially realize is part of his plot to protect her. After Peeta tells Katniss to run from Cato, Cato stabs Peeta in the thigh and leaves him for dead.
In the 74th Hunger Games, Clove was the only Career tribute who came close to killing Katniss twice — at the Bloodbath and at the Feast, and certainly seemed to have a deep hatred for her, perhaps because Katniss received a higher score than her.

Characterization. Peeta is the same age as Katniss, making him 16 years old in The Hunger Games and 17-18 in Catching Fire and Mockingjay. Peeta is of "medium height, stocky build" and has "ashy blond hair that falls in waves over his forehead." He has blue eyes.
Katniss feels betrayed, most of all by Haymitch, who used her and Peeta. Eventually she wakes to find Gale there. He's badly injured and tells her the Capitol bombed District 12 after the Games. He got Prim and Katniss's mother out in time, but the District 12 is gone.
Who is the first person Katniss intentionally kills?
Katniss kills Glimmer, Marvel, and Cato in The Hunger Games. Glimmer's death occurs by chance. Katniss drops a tracker jacker nest on the Career Tributes' camp while they are sleeping, and Glimmer is stung to death before she can get away. A gun is a firearm designed to be used by an individual. Guns are never used in the Hunger Games—because they would give the wielder an unfair advantage—but are instead used by Peacekeepers and the Panem military. Long before Peeta risked punishment from his mother by throwing Katniss some bread, his father had pointed the girl out to him and explained to his son that he had once been in love with her mother.
Many years later, Katniss and Peeta are parents to a daughter and a son. For nearly fifteen years, Katniss was hesitant about having children even though Peeta has wanted children for all those years.
Katniss here's this and understands that even though she may not love Peeta (then) that it's one less person who has to die. (At least that's what I have always thought.) Katniss realizes that if she pretends to be in love with Peeta people will want the capitol to let them survive.
Unable to find Peeta and hearing a cannon, Katniss nearly attacks Finnick, suspecting his betrayal, but he reminds her to "remember who the real enemy is." Katniss attaches the wire to an arrow, firing it into the arena's roof just as lightning strikes.
Peeta Mellark served as Katniss' crucial confidant, seeing as he went through it all firsthand, not once, but twice. Despite the terror he faced, Katniss viewed Peeta as a symbol of comfort and salvation.
