After their fateful encounter with Anakin Skywalker on Mustafar, Obi-Wan Kenobi arrived on Polis Massa with Padmé Amidala and immediately took the stricken Naboo senator to a medical bay. Polis Massa's medical droids said that while their instruments could find nothing physically wrong with Padmé, she was dying.

During Mandalore's Civil War and his apprenticeship under Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan fell in love with the young Duchess Satine Kryze. The two lived on the run for over a year. Satine reciprocated his feelings as he saved her life from insurgents and bounty hunters.
Before he could enter, however, Vader was stopped by Sabé, Eirtaé, Rabé, Saché, and Dormé, former handmaidens of Amidala, who refused to let him enter into the grave so he would not desecrate it. However, Vader would not be denied. As he entered the tomb, he became flooded with memories of Amidala.
