Location. Heartland is filmed on a real ranch in Millarville, Alberta, Canada, where Roy Foster and his family moved to in 1928, and they raised cattle. Roy's brother, Les built the famous barn seen on the show.
In reality, they were filmed in a small village called Millarville. It is home to The Millarville Racing & Agricultural Society, just 35 minutes southwest of Calgary. This historical racetrack has been around for over a century and now hosts various family-oriented events.
For years, the CBC hit Heartland has been using the scenic back drop of Alberta to tell its unique tale. When it came to filming scenes that take place in Mongolia, the Drumheller valley was its choice. In late September the cast and crew of Heartland were in the Dorothy area shooting this season's Heartland.

You can't actually eat at the Diner as it's a film set but if you watch Heartland, it is very cool to see! We were thrilled to be able to look inside through the windows to see where many parts of the Heartland series is filmed inside and outside of Maggie's.

The truth is that Heartland tries to reflect how life is in Alberta. Very few seasoned riders wear helmets if they are just out for a ride. If everyone always wore one it would look fake. That being written, for bronc and bull riding and for all jumping helmets will be worn.
