Later, Peeta comes in contact with a force field and his heart stops. Katniss and Peeta's efficient ally, Finnick Odair, succeeds in reviving him with CPR. Finnick Odair is the District 4 male victor tribute and a stunningly good-looking young man.
Finnick was willing to give up Mags to save Peeta because he needed to, to convince Katniss they were on the same side. He receives a large cut in his leg when he was trying to save Peeta. During the events of Mockingjay, Finnick shows concern for Peeta, and goes out of his way to save Peeta's life again.
Only a short time later, his hijacking had been completed. A while after Peeta regained consciousness, Gale, Boggs, and a few other District 13 soldiers went to the Capitol, found him, and helped him to recover. Katniss was told about Peeta's arrival.

How did Haymitch betray Katniss?
Toward the end of the novel, Katniss realizes that Haymitch has been keeping information from her and using her to help the rebellion, causing her to feel extremely betrayed. On the other hand, his goals are generally good ones.
When he was chased with an axe by the only other tribute left alive, he lured her to the edge of the arena, where the force field was. When she threw the axe at him, he ducked and the weapon flew back, embedding itself in her head. Haymitch was crowned the victor.
While a prisoner of the Capitol, Peeta was hijacked into believing that Katniss was not human, but in fact one of the Capitol's mutts. Conversely, Johanna Mason suggested that the Capitol's torture replaced Peeta with an "evil-mutt version" of himself. This sentiment was later echoed by Katniss.
Katniss is told to put on her Mockingjay uniform and join Gale and Finnick for some filming of the destruction aboveground. Coin wants to make it clear that the Mockingjay lives. But Katniss can't perform for the propos because she's too upset about Peeta and grows increasingly distraught.

The films, trying to be as faithful to the source material as possible, naturally had to include Finnick's death as well. In this sense, Finnick is the perfect candidate for upping the stakes of the plot via his death, as his hope for a future with his partner Annie made his demise seem even more untimely.

Both Morphlings die during the Hunger Games in Catching Fire, after the female tribute from District 6 protects Peeta from the monkey mutations that attack the tribute. She dies in Peeta's arms while looking at the sunset.

Although she will never know for sure, Katniss does recognize that she cannot be with Gale. She will never be able to forgive him for his idea — the parachute bombs — that killed Prim.

While in the woods, Haymitch runs into three career tributes. He's outmanned but not outgunned as he quickly kills two of them with his knife. The final tribute manages to disarm him, and as they go in for the kill fellow District 12 tribute Maysilee Donner kills the career with a dart.
