The fight for the Darksaber was a duel between Paz Vizsla and Din Djarin that took place on the Mandalorian covert on Glavis Ringworld, in 9 ABY. Vizsla, who was a member of House Vizsla, challenged Djarin for a duel so he could regain the Darksaber, a weapon whose wielder could lead the Mandalorians, back to his Clan.
I've seen a number of theories that Din Djarin needs a Jedi's training to learn how to use the Darksaber. But, I think there's a much more likely teacher - a Mandalorian who's already learned how to wield it as a non force-user.
By circa 9 ABY, after the fall of the Empire, Gideon still possessed the Darksaber, and was the leader of an Imperial remnant on the planet of Nevarro. During his rescue of the Force-sensitive foundling Grogu from Gideon, the Mandalorian Din Djarin won the Darksaber from Gideon in combat.
All of that goes to show that Mando not being able to lift the Darksaber has nothing to do with how he acquired the blade or his failing the Creed. Accordingly, the best explanation is still that the Darksaber doesn't personally approve of Mando.
In The Mandalorian season 3, episode 2, Bo-Katan came to Din Djarin's rescue when he was defeated by a crab-like cyborg on Mandalore. Many viewers suggested Bo-Katan had inadvertently reclaimed the Darksaber, because she defeated the enemy who bested him.
At the time of The Mandalorian story, it is pretty clear that Moff Gideon is not a Sith Lord even though he has the Darksaber in his possession nor does he have any links to the Jedi. Moff Gideon is nothing more than one of the Empire's existing bad guys who officially worked for the Imperial Security Bureau.
Dave Filoni, a Lucasfilm creative, explains that the Darksaber is not necessarily more powerful than a typical lightsaber and its old age could make it less powerful. The main difference between the Darksaber and lightsaber is its design, with the flat blade of energy being a unique "Mandalorian twist."
According to the rules, Darksaber must be won by combat, which isn't how Bo-Katan received the sword. The Armorer doesn't recognize Bo-Katan as its owner since she didn't fight for it. That being said, Bo-Katan did try to earn it the correct way by going after Moff Gideon.
After Sabine observed that the Darksaber is deceptively heavy, Kanan explained that energy follows through the blade, with the wielder directing its current of power. The wielder's thoughts and actions flow into the Darksaber to fuel this energy, affecting the weight.
Why can Bo-Katan use the Darksaber better than Mando?
Naturally, the same rules of the Darksaber apply to Bo-Katan, though she wields the weapon with ease against Djarin's captor. This is presumably because Bo-Katan possesses much greater confidence about her identity, even when she has lost faith in her mission to restore Mandalore.
In that regard, Darth Vader will more than likely command fear out of Mando as he comes straight at him, deflecting any projectile Mando throws at him. Mando will need all of Baby Yoda's help in order to make it a decent fight and even then, he'll only be able to survive with the assistance of his little green ward.
Back when Maul was in possession of the Darksaber, he executed the then-leader of Mandalore, Satine Kryze, and assumed power for himself. Satine was the sister of Bo-Katan, which led to her future opposition to the former Sith Lord at the tail end of the Clone Wars.
In fact, it wasn't uncommon for Mandalorians to beat Jedi in fights throughout the war. Even Obi-Wan is aware of their combat prowess in Star Wars: The Clone Wars: "I know these commandos fought in many wars, often against the Jedi." The Mandalorians were skilled, and there was a whole planet of them.
The Darksaber may be a fearsome weapon, but it cannot cut through beskar, which is the most resilient metal in the Star Wars universe and also Mandalorian-made. It is currently unknown if the Darksaber hilt is imbued with beskar, which would make it even more mighty in the eyes of the Mandalorians.
Din is crap with that Darksaber because he believes he doesn't deserve it. That simple fact is the draw of the entire series. We see that he's worthy. He cannot.
Ahsoka's white lightsabers first appeared in the TV episode "Fire Across the Galaxy", the season one finale for Star Wars Rebels. According to Dave Filoni, one of the show's creators, the lightsaber blades are white to reflect her non-affiliation with the Jedi or Sith.
First, she has had practice with it. She got it as a gift in the past and learned to use it well. That's why, she is near unbeatable with the Darksaber. However, the second and most important reason is that Bo-Katan possesses much greater confidence in her identity.
Falling from a cliff while pursuing the young Jedi, one native's body was shattered, but Windu was able to reconstruct the individual piece–by–piece. In return, the natives presented him with several violet-colored crystals, rare lightsaber components which produced a distinctive purple blade.
Rather than see Bo-Katan wield the Darksaber, Moff Gideon uses his new Mandalorian-inspired armor to crush the Darksaber along with the hand that wields it. In doing so, Moff Gideon crushes over a millennium of Mandalorian history.
When he passes away, it gets passed down through inheritance to his son, Luke Skywalker. So technically. the Darksaber belongs to Luke Skywalker rightfully.
This is why we got a Darksaber and Mandalorian lore-focused episode inside The Book of Boba Fett. Boba Fett is present there as a Mythosaur part of the prophecy and the one who won't have any problems wielding the Darksaber.
How did Moff Gideon get the Darksaber from Sabine?
She was told by Moff Gideon that Mandalore would be spared if she commanded them to disarm. Despite weapons being a crucial aspect of the Mandalorian religion, she agreed, knowing it was the only way to save what remained of her people. In doing so, she yielded to Moff Gideon and gave away the Darksaber to him.
