Anthony Hope A youthful sailor who helps Sweeney return to London and unexpectedly falls in love with Johanna. He is idealistic, romantic and a little reckless. His passions sometimes get the better of his reason and his enthusiasm sometimes makes him unintentionally comedic.
Outside of her house, Anthony Hope, a young sailor, hears her song and falls in love with her, vowing to save her from Turpin. Johanna sees him, she opens the window and she throws her door's key to him. The two make a plan to run away from the cruel judge. After this, to her horror, Turpin asks Johanna to marry him.
In the final scene, Johanna, Anthony and two policemen encounter Toby in the bakehouse, mindlessly turning the meat grinder, surrounded by the corpses of Todd, Lucy, Mrs. Lovett, and Turpin. Presumably she elopes with Anthony after the events of the show.
Mrs. Lovett then tells Todd she loves him and would be a better wife than Lucy ever could have been. Todd feigns forgiveness, dancing manically with Mrs.
Turpin then takes the Barkers' infant daughter, Johanna, and raises her as his ward. He keeps her locked away from the world and spies on her through a peephole in her wall. When Johanna turns sixteen, Turpin asks for her hand in marriage. She refuses, to his bafflement.
Turpin eventually falls in love with the beautiful Johanna and offers her his hand in marriage. She refuses, to which he seems baffled. When he spots Anthony Hope "gandering" at Johanna, he has him beaten up and threatens to kill him if he ever returns.
Act 1; Scene 15: (Kiss Me (Part II)) Johanna and Anthony kiss and later sink to the floor together. They kiss several more times in the show. Act 2: Scene 21: (By The Sea (Part 1)) Mrs. Lovett kisses Sweeney Todd throughout this song and twice more during the scene following the second part of the song.
Lovett tells Todd she's "always had a fondness" for him, which he does not reciprocate. When he returns home from Australia, she lies and tells him his wife committed suicide. To her dismay, he continues to obsess over his wife and the life he once had, either not noticing or ignoring her romantic advances.
When she tries to collect her share of the profits and get out of the business, Sweeney stabs her in a rage and throws her into the bakehouse fire. In fact, Mrs. Lovett is disposed of before the halfway mark of the play - she dies in the second act of a four-act production.
However, in the film version, Toby does not appear to be caught or to have gone insane. It is implied that he ultimately escapes, but we don't know whether he escaped with Anthony and Joanna or escaped on his own.
Lucy Barker is a fictional character that appears in some versions of the story Sweeney Todd. Lucy is the wife of barber Benjamin Barker, who is unjustly imprisoned by Judge Turpin, who wants Lucy for himself. After Turpin sexually abuses her, Lucy attempts suicide with poison, but survives and goes insane.
Answer and Explanation: Johanna survives in Mockingjay. She is rescued from the Capitol along with Peeta and brought back to District 13. While Peeta is able to push past his trauma in order to help Katniss, Johanna is deemed too unstable to send with Katniss' team.
However, when he discovers that Todd has been killing customers for Mrs. Lovett to bake into meat pies, he goes insane with horror and shock. After seeing Todd kill Mrs. Lovett, a vengeful Toby emerges from the sewers, where he was hiding, and slashes Todd's throat with his own razor.
Also, more tragically, while she knows Johanna's name, she does not remember the girl as her daughter. Lucy is also seen wandering around Sweeney's barbershop, her old home, which is a weak insinuation that she does have a bit of memory regarding her past.
Johanna: 18, Sweeney's daughter. Standard British accent (RP). Her family seems easily pushed into madness. She is pretty, sweet, and delicate and the beginning; after her confinement in the asylum and until her rescue, she may be on the edge of insanity.
Sweeny Todd, I must report, never actually existed. The Sweeney Todd story, as we know it today, was a fiction that appeared between November 1846 and March 1847 in Edward Lloyd's (1815-1890) The People's Periodical and Family Library as an eighteen part serial entitled The String of Pearls: A Romance.
Sweeney realizes that the beggar woman was actually Lucy, and accuses Mrs. Lovett of knowing she lived. Todd, outraged that Mrs. Lovett lied to him, briefly pretends to forgive her, before throwing her into the furnace, resulting in Mrs.
After three seemingly catastrophic confrontations with the razor-wielding barber (one in each act), Mark Ingestrie reappears alive and well in the final scene of the play. Right is restored, Sweeney Todd is disposed of and the lovers are reunited. A happy ending for all. Bond makes his hero more complex.
Beggar Woman/Lucy Barker: A mad crone whose interjections go unheeded, she is eventually identified as Benjamin Barker's wife, Lucy, who was raped by Judge Turpin.
Lovett locked up Toby in the basement where she cooks the bodies and he escaped through the sewers. When Todd finally killed Turpin, along with Beadle Bamford and a beggar woman, Turpin was alive for a few seconds and grabbed Lovett's dress, causing her to scream just as Turpin bleeds to death.
We learn that Mrs. Lovett's motivation was out of love for Mr. Todd, that was proved many times.. By the end, Todd discovered Lovett's half lie when he accidentally kills his wife, and Mrs.
Lovett's former husband who died of gout or obesity. Mrs. Lovett mentions him twice in the film: she tells Sweeney he used to sit in the chair all day, until his legs gave out because of gout. She tells Toby that Albert he would stuff himself to bloation.
Sweeney Todd is recommended for ages 12 and up. The show contains mature themes and disturbing imagery, so it may not be suitable for younger children. If you're in the mood for an epic, dark, and thrilling musical experience, see Sweeney Todd; you won't be disappointed.
