The film's version of the Queen was created by Walt Disney and Joe Grant, and originally animated by Art Babbitt and voiced by Lucille La Verne. Inspiration for her design came from the characters of Queen Hash-a-Motep from She and Princess Kriemhild from Die Nibelungen.
According to Kenny Klein, the enchantress Ceridwen of the Welsh mythology was "the quintissential evil stepmother, the origin of that character in the two tales of Snow White and Cinderella." Equivalents of the Evil Queen can be found in Snow White-like tales from around the world.
The Evil Queen's origins can be traced to the character of Silver-Tree, a jealous queen who threatens her daughter, in the Celtic oral tale "Gold-Tree and Silver-Tree".

Who is the Evil Queen based on?
The Queen, who was originally to be named Grimhilde (but who is never actually named in the film), was also modeled in part on Princess Kriemhild in the 1924 film Die Nibelungen. The Queen's face may have been inspired by Joan Crawford and also Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich and Gale Sondergaard.
Marge Champion, who served as the real-life model for Walt Disney's Snow White, has died at the age of 101. The actress was also well known for starring alongside her husband and dance partner Gower Champion in a string of MGM musicals in the 1950s.
The seven dwarfs represent Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Light, Shadow, and Magic, although the 'Magic' dwarf is essentially a spirit that just inhabits Snow and enhances her power rather than appearing on its own, with the others appearing in some form to represent their element.
