The real battle happens afterward as supernatural forces of darkness and light — embodied by the demonic dictator Randall Flagg (Alexander Skarsgard) and the holy woman Mother Abagail (Whoopi Goldberg) — duel for the souls of the plague's survivors.
Randall Flagg makes his first named appearance in King's 1978 apocalyptic novel, The Stand, where he tries to construct a new civilization in the United States after a plague kills most of the population. Flagg is described as a "tall man of no age" in old blue jeans, denim jacket and old cowboy boots.
Considering the fact that the fan theory about Randall Flagg being Children of the Corn's He Who Walks Behind the Rows has existed for quite some time, and Stephen King himself has never weighed in on it, it seems likely he has no plans to confirm or deny its validity at any point.
Flagg meets Roland's son Mordred Deschain in an attempt to take his leg and bring it to the Tower so he can take it over and become a god. Mordred, however, takes control of Flagg's motor functions with his mind powers and forces Flagg to dismember himself. Then he overpowers him and eats him.
Pennywise's ability to control and influence the minds of humans, also seems to be much harder to overcome than Flagg's mental powers. Flagg can mentally project himself across distances, and make others see scary things, but he can't outright mentally dominate people like Pennywise does via its Deadlights.

Is Pennywise in the same universe as the Dark Tower?
King has said that the two are not the SAME creature, but that Pennywise is a Todash monster of the same ilk as Dandelo (and there is good evidence that Dandelo is Pennywise's offspring). So yeah. Both movies are actually in the same universe.
Jess Rider is a supporting character who first appears in Chapter 2 of the Complete and Uncut Edition of The Stand by Stephen King. He is the biological father of Frannie Goldsmith's child, the eventual Peter Goldsmith-Redman.
