Kevin Wendell Crumb is the main antagonist of Split. He is a mysterious man who suffers from an extreme case of Dissociative Identity Disorder, and has 23 separate personalities residing in his mind.
Its antagonist (James McAvoy), diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder (DID), has twenty-three distinct personalities occupying one body. The frightening twenty-fourth personality, the Beast, that emerges is a monster who hungers for young girls.
Each of the three protagonists of the Unbreakable trilogy (David Dunn, Elijah Price, and Kevin W. Crumb) have their own distinctive colors: David's color is green, Elijah's color is purple and Kevin's color is yellow. However, Kevin is a antagonist in Split, though he is briefly an antagonist and protagonist in Glass.

Dennis. Dennis is the first of Kevin's other identities we're introduced to in "Split." At the start of the film, he kidnaps three teenage girls and asks one to dance for him. As the movie progresses, we learn he likes to watch young girls dance naked and, for that reason, the others try to keep him from emerging.

It's only alluded to in the film, but it appears to be based on the animals in the zoo above where Kevin lives. In the third act, the Beast breaks out thanks to Dennis and kills two of the kidnapped girls, but allows protagonist Casey to live due to her own troubled past, recognizing a bond between them.
At the end of "Split," we find that the character with 24 split personalities played by James McAvoy lives in the same cinematic world as a character from another Shyamalan movie when Bruce Willis suddenly appears, playing David Dunn, the main character from 2000's "Unbreakable."

The film has been poorly received by mental illness and dissociative identity disorder campaigners. Mental health advocates warn that the film stigmatizes dissociative identity disorder and may directly affect those living with it.
But Casey is different. Flashbacks interspersed throughout the action reveal that she was sexually abused by her uncle (Brad William Henke)—and that, after her parents' death, this uncle became her guardian. Casey's weirdness and introversion is traced to this abuse.
Inspiration for the film, real-life multiple-personality Billy Milligan (14 February 1955 - 12 December 2014), charged with three rapes, was the first person diagnosed with multiple personality disorder to use an insanity defense by reason of that disorder, and also first to be acquitted thus.
This happiness came to an end when her uncle molested her while they were on a hunting trip together, leaving Casey traumatized. To make matters worse, Casey's uncle, John was the only legal guardian to take care of her after her father passed away.
DID and schizophrenia have some overlapping symptoms, but they are separate conditions. While people with either condition may experience delusions, depression, and suicidal thoughts, people with DID experience multiple identities or personalities, while those with schizophrenia do not.
When Dennis takes one victim (Sula) into a private room, Casey whispers to the girl to “pee on yourself” as a defensive strategy. Given Dennis's germaphobia, the ploy works, although it soon becomes evident that sex slavery is not on the table.
So the Beast does indeed emerge – McAvoy becomes ultra strong, his skin gets super hard, he gains the ability to climb impossible walls (somewhat unconvincingly) and his voice gets even creepier. And he does indeed completely eviscerate and eat two of the girls.
Night Shyamalan's Split drew inspiration from the real life court case of Billy Milligan. Milligan's landmark verdict of not guilty based on Dissociative Identity Disorder still captures public interest today. Shyamalan's portrayal of DID in Split is based on Milligan's case but takes many creative liberties.
Kevin's mother was horribly abusive towards him and would beat him constantly over the slightest of things. She was also a bit of a clean freak and demand that kevin clean the house to her ridiculous standards, and if he didn't do it as good as she wanted it, another beating.
However, Split goes beyond its genre and undertakes depicting dissociative identity disorder as a genuine and valid mental illness as well. It denies the claims that DID is an iatrogenic disorder or an epiphenomenon of another disorder and affirms trauma as a potential cause of this very real mental illness.
Obviously, The Beast is where Split veers into pure fiction with DID. As the personality emerges, Kevin takes on animalistic traits and gains abilities that wouldn't be physically possible if there wasn't some artistic license involved.
The aftermath of the film leads to an ending that is tragic, engaging, and tense beyond belief. The now-iconic ending also features what is undoubtedly the best twist in a Shyamalan film since The Sixth Sense.
However, upon Casey's shirt being ripped off in their final struggle, it is revealed that she has scars on her stomach—scars caused by self-inflicted harm and cutting. As it's been confirmed earlier in the picture, Casey was abused repeatedly over the years by her uncle.
Glass' Actions Led To Kevin Wendell Crumb Creating The Beast. The most dangerous of Kevin Crumb's personalities is the Beast, the final personality to develop. Born from Kevin's desire to have power over his life, the Beast is a vicious and powerful force that represents Kevin's trauma.
