Play Good karma first, evil is much easier. I went through the game faster as evil even though I did it on plat. The story is also slightly different, mostly just the ending and a few scenarios... I personally prefer good.

If you've done both I would stick to hero. It's a lot easier to subdue enemies from afar with the slow down time and leg subdue combo. You'll be thinning out their numbers from distance as you can't take that much of a hit. Plus the instant headshot subdue helps as well.
You can boost your chances a little with a Luck of the Sea enchant on your fishing rod. Then there's the Heart of the Sea itself, which is trickier to track down because it's only found in buried treasure chests.
Conduit power combines the effects of water breathing, night vision, and haste status effects, which is a pretty nifty combo when underwater. Conduits also emit light and damage nearby hostile mobs in contact with water.
