Ana Stelline (Carla Juri), a “memory designer,” who herself, we believe, is a replicant and whose job is to create the artificial memories that will be implanted in other newly-manufactured replicants. Dr. Stelline is by far the most empathetic (and human) character that K has encountered. She cares.
However, he later learns that, even if the memory is real, it was not his own but Dr Ana Stelline's. Through her work, Dr Stelline shared her memory with K, and this allowed him to understand what it was like to walk in her shoes, but most importantly, to believe himself a free, loved replicant.
Because of this memory, K became convinced that he was Rachael and Deckard's child, but was eventually informed by Freysa that he was not and that the child was female. With this revelation, K soon determined that Stelline was the child.
In 2015 it was announced that Harmsen would be co-starring with Robert de Hoog in a television series based on the American outlaws Bonnie and Clyde. Harmsen portrayed the female replicant that was 'born' in the 2017 film Blade Runner 2049.
In a 2023 interview, Ford stated that he "always knew" that Deckard was a replicant, but wanted to "push back against it", adding that a replicant (or at least, Deckard) would want to believe that they are human.
Does Blade Runner 2049 confirm Deckard is not a replicant?
That seems pretty definitive, but even so – the film remains open to interpretation, and Denis Villeneuve's 2017 sequel “Blade Runner 2049” does nothing to confirm or deny Deckard's replicant nature.
During the final fight with K, after subduing him, she smugly kissed him and retorted "I am the best one!", as if trying to prove her superiority over not just K, but all other replicants, further hinting at her deep-seated insecurities that she kept well-hidden.
Deckard's eyes glow briefly in one scene, which was used in the film to subtly suggest his replicant identity. However, Ford denies this was an intentional effect and he may have caught some of the light intended to fall on Sean Young's eyes.
Later at K's apartment, he informed Joi of his conclusion that his memory was indeed real. This overjoyed her, as she always believed him to be special, insisting that he now be called "Joe." Unsure, K sought further information and Joi suggested finding the one responsible for creating memories for replicants.
The second film further develops Rachael's origin, and gives significantly more details about her radical design. It revealed that she was an experimental model of replicant with a high percentage of human organs, including human reproductive organs, and that Rachael conceived a child with Deckard.
Stelline informed K that it was illegal for real human memories to be implanted into replicants. She offered to analyze his memory and tearfully confirmed that it was real.
She weeps when they suffer and is heartbroken when they die, but is incapable of acting to stop either. Like so many people who feel helpless in today's society, Luv is a prisoner to her programming. Luv's first very-human tears come as she witnesses a murder.
Her name is Joi and she is an illusion in every sense, right down to her holographic countenance made up of ones and zeroes. But in the world of Blade Runner 2049, nobody is perfect, and she is both the fantasy and reality of Ridley Scott's haunted future made flesh. Digitally speaking, of course.
The big twist in the final act of the movie is that K isn't the son of Deckard and Rachael at all, but just another cog in the machine that might lead to the child's discovery.
Ana Stelline (Carla Juri), who is Deckard and Rachael's daughter but has no idea of this and now works as the world's best memory fabricator. We don't know if she planted that memory in only K's brain or in the brains of hundreds of replicants, hoping one of them would follow this message in a bottle. Maybe others did.
Wallace himself wanted to discover the secret to reproduction in replicants in order to support interstellar colonization, and to this end he sent Luv, now his assistant, to steal Rachael's remains from the LAPD headquarters and follow K to find Rachael's child.
His perfect match would disobey her programming to help him. Regardless of your opinions on the above, I do think that the movie clearly says that Joi's love for K was programmed/created by a corporation. But he loves her back.
When K was meeting with Ana and she confirms for him that the memory was real and that it happened, K shows his first bout of strong emotion in the movie by yelling god damn it and storming out.
K started the movie believing he was made, with implanted memories. He then thought he was born, and that the memories were real. In fact, as revealed by the end of the movie, he was made and the memories were implants – but they were real, implanted memories from the actual daughter of Deckard and Rachael.
This is when she slices his eyes with her katana, permanently blinding him. While Elle manages to escape with her life and leave Los Angeles for parts unknown, her actions may have actually motivated Wallace Jr. to become the ruthless CEO he is in Blade Runner 2049.
Rachael died giving birth to Ana, sacrificing herself so that her child could live. The 'Rachael' in Blade Runner 2049 is a replicant, created by Wallace to seduce Deckard into spilling any information he has on his child, or the accomplices that assisted him in hiding her.
“Blade Runner” intricately explores the theme of identity, delving into the complex struggle of defining humanity in a world where distinctions between artificial replicants and humans become indistinct.
He did this all for the purpose of convincing them to authorize the production of his replicants by proving how mindlessly and slavishly obedient they are. He coldly murders a newborn replicant by slitting her stomach and letting her bleed out just to make a point.
Joi wins the audience's hearts with her kindness and sensitivity before her arc ends in tragedy. After K takes her to Las Vegas in the emanator unit to track down Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford's original Blade Runner character), the villainous Luv arrives to wipe Joi from existence, abduct Deckard, and leave K for dead.
