Family Ties. When Aaron is young, he and his brother Jefferson engage in criminal activity to survive. He saves Jefferson's life but they both eventually end up in jail. You get the sense it's a one sided crush even at the end but we start the 2nd film seeing that Gwen has been thinking about Miles since she went back to her own world. When you really think about it, the events of the 2nd half of ATSV only happen because she misses him.
