Stanley Kubrick's adaptation of Stephen King's The Shining expands upon the theme of man as monster. The monster, Jack Torrence, is an example of the standard American male who provides for and protects his son and wife (Bingham 138).
Dr. Edmonds, Danny's psychiatrist in Sidewinder, thinks Tony is a product of Danny's mind, brought forth by family stress. Readers don't quite know what to make of him, though he seems a fairly benevolent figure in spite of his radical communication techniques.
Jack is offered the position of caretaker of the Overlook Hotel for the winter season, but during his time there, slowly falls into insanity due to cabin fever and the evil influence of the ghosts inhabiting the place, such as the Hotel Caretaker, leading him to turn on his own family.

The Shining follows Jack Torrance, a man recovering from alcohol use disorder, who has delusions and develops psychosis over the course of the film. Although this movie attempts to explain the delusions by using spirits, audiences widely regarded Jack Torrance as the "crazy" axe-murderer from The Shining.
Jack becomes obsessed enough with the hotel's sordid past that he wants to write a book about it. He makes a long-distance call to the hotel's manager, Stuart Ullmann, and antagonizes him with this knowledge. Eventually, he goes mad thanks to the influence of the hotel's ghosts and attempts to kill Wendy and Danny.
In The Shining, there is a backstory of how Jack decided to go sober. While in the car with his friend Al Shockley, both drunk, they hit a bike. But they cannot find the person they hit. Terrified by the incident, Jack realizes he must stop drinking alcohol.
It is morning, and Jack is dead, frozen in the maze, trapped in the Overlook Hotel forever. The final shot of The Shining is the real kicker as the camera zooms in on a photo hanging in the Overlook Hotel. The photo shows the 4th of July ball in 1921, and who do we see smack dab in the center? Jack Torrance.
In the "fatherly love" scene, Jack strangles Danny and sexually abuses him. In the "naked woman" scene Danny is manifested as his own father and witnesses the encounter. Thus, the disgust Jack sees in the mirror is actually the disgust that Danny feels as he encounters the experience.
Danny Torrance is introduced in The Shining as the five-year-old son of Jack and Wendy Torrance. He has psychic powers that fellow psychic Dick Halloran calls “shining” – he can read people's thoughts, communicate telepathically with others who “shine”, and has frequent, frightening prophetic visions.
Late in the film, Tony seems to take over for Danny after the little boy is traumatized by his encounter with the woman in Room 237, telling Wendy Torrance that her son is no longer present, and speaking in the weird croaky voice Danny used previously when talking as Tony.

But Nicholson all of a sudden decided to use a very popular phrase of that time. "Here's Johnny" is actually a reference to Johnny Carson's Tonight Show. He was welcomed by the announcer with these words. It sounded so crazy and so good, that Kubrick decided to leave it as it was.
For the record, Lloyd – who goes by Dan rather than Danny these days – is a biology professor at a community college in Kentucky. He did work on a farm to pay his way through university, “but where I'm from in the midwest, that's where the odd jobs are, on farms”.
The Shining is also explicitly about America's general inability to admit to the gravity of the genocide of the Indians - or, more exactly, its ability to "overlook" that genocide. Not only is the site called the Overlook Hotel with its Overlook Maze, but one of the key scenes takes place at the July 4th Ball.
It is stated that the Overlook Hotel was made out of evil because it is composed of negative influence from a history of deaths, giving it moral agency issues. Its crime is also confirmed, unlike the 1980 film adaptation and 2019 sequel. Due to its sadism, though, this is a minor prevention.

Getting out of the hedge maze, Danny reunites with Wendy, and together they get into Dick's snowcat and escape. Jack, however, gets turned around and lost, and eventually gives up, slumping to the ground. By the next morning he freezes to death.
He was put in charge of the Overlook Hotel, and during the time there, was driven into madness by a demon that possessed the entire Hotel and attempted to kill his own wife, Wendy, and his own son, Danny.
