By creating his first Horcrux at age 16, Tom Riddle showed impressive dark magic abilities and a chilling revelation of splitting his soul. Despite his charming appearance, young Tom Riddle had a twisted upbringing, from being born from a love potion to his involvement in serial killing.
We later learn that James and Lily sacrificed themselves to protect one-year-old Harry from the dark wizard Lord Voldemort. Since Harry was so young when his parents died, he has no memory of them (or their deaths) and relies on information from other people in his life.
During The Purity War, Sirius Black was a member of The Order of The Phoenix and gave a confession to being a member of The Death Eaters, and betraying the Potters to The Dark Lady, admitting to putting the Imperius Curse on dozens of other Death Eaters. For his crimes, he was sentenced to Life in Azkaban Prison.

Sirius, desperate for any time out of his confinement, comes along too. The Order battles the Death Eaters in the "Death Chamber". During a frenzied duel with Bellatrix, Sirius taunts her for failing to harm him. Bellatrix strikes Sirius with a curse, sending him backwards into the veil and to his death.
Harry Potter's Age Changes Hide How Young Sirius Was
Sirius was only 36 years old when he tragically died at the hands of Bellatrix Lestrange. Since most of the adult Harry Potter actors were older than their characters, the age changes in the films helped hide just how young Sirius actually was.
Fundamentally, he was a good person. He fought for what was right and was unafraid to stand against Voldemort. He joined the Order of the Phoenix not once, but twice. Despite being a pure-blood, he didn't believe that he was superior to other witches, wizards and Muggles.
Due to his humiliation in the Triwizard Tournament, Cedric eventually becomes a Death Eater and kills Neville Longbottom. Due to Neville's death, the final Horcrux Nagini was never destroyed, and as a result Voldemort is never defeated, kills Harry and takes over the Wizarding World.
The Malfoys are related to the Black family through Narcissa (a first cousin of Sirius Black, Harry's godfather), which makes Draco a nephew of both Bellatrix Lestrange and Andromeda Tonks. Draco is also Nymphadora Tonks' first cousin through their mothers.
Peter Pettigrew's betrayal of the Potters and allegiance to Voldemort was a result of his unhealthy admiration for James and desire for power. Sirius Black was believed to be the Potters' Secret Keeper, but he secretly switched with Peter Pettigrew, who turned out to be a mole.
Sirius's intense love for James, his grief after James's death, and his anger towards Peter drove him to insanity, getting him locked up in Azkaban for crimes he never committed.
Remus fought at the Battle of Hogwarts on 2 May 1998, during which his wife was murdered by Bellatrix Lestrange. Remus was also murdered by Death Eater Antonin Dolohov, during the first half of the same battle. His death was possibly avenged by Filius Flitwick.

The book and the films diverged. In the book he is not hit with the killing curse. I believe in the movie he is. In the book, the curse that hits Sirius is not identified (although it is rumoured to be Stupefy because of the red light), and him being knocked through the Veil is what causes his death.
