Arquette played the staple character of Dewey Riley in the series. Dewey was killed off in the fifth film, leaving die-hard fans reeling at his loss. In a plot twist in Scream 5, Ghostface – the iconic series antagonist – slaughters Arquette's Dewey.
Moments before Nancy held Gale Weathers at gunpoint. That night, Nancy attacks Dewey and Gale inside the Windsor College video archives rooms where Nancy stabs Dewey in the back, almost completely killing him. Then, she attempts to kill Gale. However, she ultimately gives up since the glass is resistant to damage.
Dewey returns in Scream 2, suffering from a limp and weakened arm caused by nerve damage as a result of his stabbing. He travels to Windsor College to help Sidney after a series of copycat Ghostface murders. He is attacked and stabbed repeatedly by the current Ghostface but again survives.
To make the impact effective, the film needed to sacrifice its legacy character, who died in the line of duty facing Ghostface, which circles back to Dewey's role since 1996's Scream. Scream also showed that anyone could die to challenge the implications of the central characters being immortal to Ghostface.
25 years after his death, it is revealed that Billy had an affair with Christina Carpenter, and she gave birth to his illegitimate daughter, Samantha, who later faces a similar killing spree to the one Billy orchestrated.
Billy is the Ghostface to stab Dewey (David Arquette) in the back, which originally was supposed to be his death but due to test audiences loving him so much, Wes Craven decided to save him. The last two kills are then pretty obvious with Billy stabbing Stu.
Dewey is one of the main characters to get attacked in all five films. Dewey correctly surmises that Richie is one of the killers in the 2022 Scream film as he warns Sam to never trust the love interest. Amber Freeman is his killer, a Stab fan who declares it an "honor" to kill him.
Loomis tries to convince Cotton to let her kill Sidney, but Cotton shoots Mrs. Loomis. Sidney and Cotton discover that Gale is wounded but alive, and help her. Mickey jumps up, and Gale and Sidney shoot him.
As it turned out, she was the one who killed Sidney's high school friend Randy Meeks, who we were all sad to see go. Debbie's psychotic revenge plot didn't end well for her. Not only was she shot by Cotton Weary (Liev Schreiber), but Sidney then made sure to finish the job.
Sadly, the involvement led to Dewey's tragic death at the hands of Amber Freeman, one of the two Ghostface killers. With Dewey and Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott not in Scream 6, the sequel relied on only one key original character: Courteney Cox's Gale Weathers.
In old Scream and slasher movie fashion, Amber wakes up from the dead one last time and is then fatally shot in the head by her best friend and the film's protagonist, Tara.
Stu Macher's sister. Amber Freeman to Chad Meeks-Martin. Leslie Macher is the sister of Stu Macher, the original Ghostface killer (alongside Billy Loomis) and the mother of 22-year-old Vince Schneider, one of the latest Ghostface victims.
They intend to get away with this by stabbing each other to make it look like they are also victims. When the time comes for them to harm one another, Billy is all too enthusiastic for his turn.
His death looks certain, but thankfully, the final scene confirms Chad miraculously survives the brutal attack. Now, we refer to Chad as the new Dewey of the franchise because, like the former sheriff of Woodsboro, he suffers unbelievable harm and still manages to fight — and get stabbed — another day.
Unfortunately for Scream franchise fans that may want to see Stu Macher make a comeback, Scream 6 has fairly definitively laid the theories to rest by confirming his death. There is a lingering shot in the film that shows Stu Macher's photo and confirms that he died in 1996.
Scream VI has been released – but, sadly for fans, it's the first one without Neve Campbell. Campbell, who had played Sidney Prescott in every Scream film to date, announced in June 2021 she had quit the sixth instalment as she wasn't getting paid what she thought she deserved.

When Sam tells Gwen that he's the father of Becca's baby, she responds with a surprised but fairly nonchalant, "Huh. OK." After she turns away, she says to Madison doubtfully, "What? You know he's gay." Madison checks her. "Sexuality is fluid, Gwen," and no one says any more about it.
