Michael Washington Lane is an antihero character appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. He debuted in Batman #665 (June 2007) as the supervillain Bat-Devil, before later taking on the identity of Azrael, being the second character to do so, after Jean-Paul Valley.

Azrael is a name given to the champions of the amoral Catholic extremist guild, the Order of St. Dumas. Azrael acts as the deranged agent of the Order, often serving as an ally and enemy to Batman due to his violence, diluted moral-system, and homicidal tendencies.
After discovering Azrael's true identity and that the Order of St. Dumas have implanted a microchip in his brain, Batman goes to the clock tower hideout to analyze the chip.

Kill Batman: Azrael grabs his sword from a shelf, having given it to Batman earlier as a sign of trust, and tries to strike down the Dark Knight from behind. However, Batman counters, and knocks out Azrael, who Batman then locks up in the GCPD.
