James "Jim" Hudson is a minor antagonist of the 2017 horror film Get Out. He is a blind art gallery owner who is a member of the Order of the Coagula allied with the Armitage Family. He was portrayed by Stephen Root.
Jim pities Chris – he ranks the experience of being black as equivalent to his experience of being blind and talentless, an experience that robbed him of the life he feels entitled to. He pities Chris, and hates Chris, as a stand-in for the ways that he pities and hates himself but is unable to see.
What is the significance of Chris being a photographer in Get Out?
One of Chris' main character traits was that he was a photographer. Because of this, he was established as very observant, which is why he eventually figured out the Armitage's true intentions. His skill with the camera goes deeper than that, though. Chris captures images so others can see the world through his lens.
Chris then wakes up tied to a chair facing a TV, and, in a chilling twist, the diabolical plan of the Armitages is finally revealed. They have been abducting and hypnotizing African-Americans to implant the consciousness of wealthy white individuals into their bodies in a procedure titled The Coagula.
Rose and her family reveal their true nature, and the Armitage family are revealed to be the leading members of a secret cult known as the Order of the Coagula (founded by Rose's grandfather Roman) whose main objective is achieving immortality through transferring their brains into African American bodies.
The scariest scenes in Get Out are the ones that recall shocking realities. Jordan Peele uses cross-cutting masterfully during the auction scene, as he cuts between Chris and Rose saying, “I love you,” for the first time, and the Armitages auctioning off Chris' body.
However, there isn't a specific event that inspired Peele to write Get Out, and instead, it was based on ongoing social issues, mostly racism and discrimination.
Why does everyone stop talking when Chris goes upstairs?
On first viewing, it's just an eerie moment, but in hindsight, the sudden silence is due to the party itself not being real. It's a front, a kind of play acting entirely for Chris' benefit. After all, he's who they're all really there to see.
Earlier, Missy—a therapist—had offered to hypnotize Chris to cure him of his nicotine cravings. It's clear, both to Chris and to the viewer, that a trap is being sprung. But what can he really do? Don't miss what matters.
The "caretaker" is out on the lawn running sprints with haunting concentration. It's later revealed that Walter is actually Rose's (Allison Williams) grandfather, who really, truly did not ever get over losing to Jesse Owens in Olympic qualifications.
Or that the cotton Chris crucially notices sticking out of a hole in his chair in the finale is a visual reference to the Old South's use of slave labor for picking cotton. What about that deer scene? It symbolizes innocence being killed, ScreenPrism asserts. And if you look closely, the deer is a recurring motif.
When the flash goes off in Logan's face his demeanor changes. Physical symptoms manifest which include a nose bleed, fear in his eyes and lunging at Chris saying "Get out". Initially, this perception of this is interpreted as aggression, but later he learns that Logan was actually warning him.
As for the phone unplugging, that was definitely the grandmother trying to keep him from accessing the outside world, which is why she was able to give him an explanation and apology for it after Rose went and told her what Chris said.
In the beginning the rabbits were locked up in cages, symbolizing the loss of free will and movement. When Adelaide was switched, Red had more control of her body as she was from the surface. Since she had control she was able to free the rabbits from their cages.
By the end of the movie, Peele makes it clear through his symbolism that deer and Kaluuya's character Chris are intended to be mirror images of one another, drawing a parallel between black men being prized as trophies just like the taxidermy deer hanging on the wall in the room where Chris was held captive.
Rod is able to transport Chris to safety as they leave Rose behind. Although the last-minute rescue by Rod comes as a moment of relief, Peele's original ending was far darker. In an earlier draft of the script, the sirens belong to real police cars, and the cops arrest Chris for the murder of the Armitage family.
While there are many eye-grabbing, horrific moments in the Daniel Kaluuya-starrer, the film arguably has one of the most hard-hitting opening sequences in recent cinema history. A lanky Lakeith Stanfield, playing the unassuming Andre Hayworth, is walking down an overwhelmingly white neighbourhood at night.
All of the Armitages and their guests wear red, which is a symbol of their secret society. Red, of course, is associated with blood, and they don't mind spilling lots of it to get what they want. Chris, however, wears no red whatsoever and this is one of the things that marks him as an outsider.

The night of their arrival, Missy pressures Chris into a hypnotherapy session to cure his smoking addiction. While in a trance, he confesses that his mother was killed in a hit-and-run when he was a child and that he feels responsible for her death as he waited too long to call for help.
Peele's original ending was a poignant commentary on the realities of racism and the system that perpetuates it; even though Chris had escaped Rose's family, he was still found guilty for murder and would feel unable to stop others from the same fate.
Who kidnapped the guy in the beginning of Get Out?
