Old movies were shot on either 35mm or 70mm film reel.These reels were analogue.Analogue gives you the ability to go back to it and 'transfer' it to what ever technology is available at the time.
35mm film has a lot more resolution than 4K (it would be the equivalent of about 8K) which is why old television series shot on film in the 1960s like “Star Trek” (The original series) look great on your big screen TV but shows shot on videotape of that era look terrible.
According to previous studies, it is reported that older movies focused a lot more on character development and conversation. The moviemakers made these movies with the general assumption that people had the time to watch these longer films. Today, modern films are focused on actions that adapt to our everyday life.
From years of watching movies and television filmed at lower frame rates, our eye expects a certain amount of motion blur and time between frames. The addition of interpolated frames can remove this. This can cause the image to appear to be too sharp, too smooth or unnatural looking to some viewers.
Film grain used to be a natural part of filmmaking. That textured, “noisy” look of old movies was a side effect of shooting and recording onto celluloid film. It was a natural part of the process, and so it became something people automatically associated with watching a movie. Flashforward to 2020.

Economics dictated shooting closer to the threshold of the illusion, and most silent films were filmed around 16-18 frames per second (fps), then projected closer to 20-24 fps. This is why motion in those old silent films is so comical, the film is sped up: Charlie Chaplin.
The 1970s movies were still using film while the 1980s were going video. This makes everything look brighter. The cuts are also neater and sound is better. The 1970s movies aimed for looking gritty.
Old movies will look great in 4k, especially if you're going from DVD quality. Since film has no actual set resolution it can be scanned at 4k or higher and will look amazing.
Upscaling an old movie to 4K means taking a movie that was originally shot in a lower resolution, such as 1080p, and converting it to the highest resolution available today, 4K. This process is also known as remastering and can be done with the right equipment and software.

NC-17. The NC-17 rating is the highest rating (even higher than the R-rating) that a film can be given, and it means the movie is for adults only (ages 18 and older) and no one age 17 or younger will be admitted. This rating, prior to 1990, was previously rated X.
That being said, HD still provides a higher number of pixels than standard definition videos. Therefore, HD images look very clear and precise, even if they do not contain as much detail as 4K images.
The older Star Wars movies were shot on 35mm film. What a lot of people don't know is that 35mm film has a much higher resolution than full HD, 1080p. So the film is actually downscaled to HD. 35mm film is close to 4.5K in resolution.

Is 4K Worth It? A 4K TV is only worth it if you have a large enough TV, and you are sitting close enough to your screen. According to the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, you would need to be sitting less than eight feet from a 65-inch TV to notice the difference between 4K and 1080p.
35 mm translates to 4-16 megapixels depending on the film quality. These 16 megapixels (if the movie was shot on a good film) translates into 4920 x 3264 and it's about 5K in modern digital equivalents. Yeap, the old movies shot many years ago have approximately 4-5K of modern quality.
While 4K television models are not the staple for content creation, it will be the go-to for content broadcasting within the next few years. Popular streaming services such as Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video have all incorporated premium 4K options and 4K content into their services.
Because unless you are playing 4k content on it, it will look about the same. In fact, if you are watching lower definition content on it, it might even look worse because you'll be able to see the flaws more clearly.
4k monitors are the king for image sharpness compared to 1080p and 1440p, which is the main advantage of those resolutions. 4k monitors can still be versatile if you need something for gaming and office work, but they cost more than 1440p monitors, so only go for these over 1440p displays if your budget allows for it.
