Kulan Gath surpasses Thanos as the ultimate bad guy, as seen when he not just defeated the Avengers but killed most of Earth's heroes in a shocking and terrifying display of this Conan the Barbarian villain's power. To add insult to injury, Kulan Gath ate them afterward.
This gets seemingly contradicted at the end, when Flora enchants the prince's sword to kill Maleficent. So they can't transfigured her, but they can enchant a sword to kill her.
One of the most worthy adversaries Maleficent could face would be Doctor Strange. As the Sorcerer Supreme, he's the most powerful sorcerer in existence, and possesses abilities beyond even Maleficent's comprehension. His powers of teleportation would render most of her spells useless when he abruptly disappears.
