After all, no weapon in existence should be able to stop the combined power of the Infinity Stones, no matter how powerful the wielder is. Turns out, Thanos was taken unawares. He had just incapacitated all the heroes who tried to stop him. And did not see Thor — or Stormbreaker — coming.
Thanos didn't know what was coming his way and if he did he would have been able to use the stones to better react to Stormbreaker. Joe and Anthony explained at an Avengers: Infinity War screening that the only reason Thor was able to do some damage is because Thanos wasn't ready.
Many viewers have pointed out that Thanos was able to lift Stormbreaker without a problem, but this is because the ax isn't enchanted as Mjolnir is. Others believe Thanos lifted Mjolnir (although briefly) and have even argued that he would be worthy of doing so.
As Thor described in Infinity War, Stormbreaker was a “Thanos-killing” weapon. Like Mjolnir, Stormbreaker is one of the most powerful weapons in the universe, and both Uru hammers nearly deal killing blows to Thanos in both Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
Mjolnir is a hammer, and was enchanted by Thor's father, Odin, so that only those the hammer deemed "worthy" are capable of wielding or even lifting it. Stormbreaker is an axe, and although it does not have such a worthiness enchantment, its power is such that a mere mortal attempting to wield it would be driven mad.

Meanwhile, MCU Phase 4 saw Stormbreaker being wielded by Thor, Gorr the God Butcher, Love, and anyone else who was strong enough to actually lift and swing it. This is because of the respective origins of both legendary Asgardian weapons.

If Thor decides to use the power of lightning onboard the Asgardian refugee ship to fight the villain and his minions, he may accidentally damage the ship, or worse, even kill his own people. So, he chose to hold himself back, allowing some Asgardians to escape with Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and Korg (Taika Waititi).
It's important to note that the rules around worthiness had been temporarily suspended to allow this to happen. As soon as the fight was over, Superman couldn't lift the hammer anymore. However, under normal circumstances, without any weird interference, Superman is worthy of Mjolnir.
Thanos can't lift Mjolnir… usually. The parameters for “worthiness” in Mjolnir's enchantment are rather vaguely defined, people tend to debate a lot about what exactly constitutes someone as “worthy”.
When Groot sacrificed himself to save his friends in Guardians of the Galaxy, pieces of him were left behind. They were no longer a part of Groot. The same is true with his arm, which is now just an axe handle, and thus doesn't disappear from existence when Groot does.
The movie doesn't explain Thor's motivations for giving up Stormbreaker, but it makes sense that Chris Hemsworth simply wanted Love to have a powerful weapon to aid her in battle. It's unlikely that he could give her Mjolnir, considering that so few people in the MCU have been deemed worthy of its power.
Why did Stormbreaker overpower the Infinity Gauntlet?
Infinity gauntlet and stormbreaker are made out of the same metal, same forge. That is why stormbreaker was able to sustain those beams coming out of the gauntlet.

Although Stormbreaker and Mjolnir have very similar properties and powers, Stormbreaker is the most powerful weapon wielded by Thor so far. The obvious reasons are that Stormbreaker is the physically larger weapon out of the two, and not to mention that it is an axe, which could well be more dangerous than a hammer.
However, if you mean comics Thor, he can destroy planets bare handed. His powers over the storm arent dependent on a hammer. If you mean the MCU, then I would have to say yes. Eitri stated that Stormbreaker was created to surpass every weapon made before it, and Odin stated Mjolnir's power was enough to destroy worlds.
Groot is a Flora colossus from Planet X, the capital of the branch worlds. The Flora colossi are tree-like beings whose language is almost impossible to understand due to the stiffness of their larynxes, causing their speech to sound like they are repeating the phrase "I am Groot".
Stormbreaker did not open the gate to eternity. It was manipulated to activate the bifrost , which was then used to open the gateway by directing the energy against the seal: The weapon may have displayed some levels of “feelings” against its owner, but Gorr has the powers of the Necrosword.
Stormbreaker survived a full blast from the IG utilizing all of its stones. Actually, not only did it survive, it overpowered it. Unless you think Hela's grip and innate powers is more destructive than all those stones combined then the answer is no, she can't destroy Stormbreaker.
Why does Thor love Mjolnir more than Stormbreaker?
Mjolnir was his first weapon and he was very attached to it. After all, Thor had the hammer longer than Stormbreaker. Korg: Sounds like you had a pretty special and intimate relationship with this hammer, and you losing it was almost comparable to losing a loved one.
