Learning that he was to be taken from Gyatso caused Aang to flee the monastery on his flying bison, Appa, before being caught by a storm; the life-or-death conditions triggered the Avatar State, encasing the young Avatar and his bison in an air-pocket among icebergs, where he remained suspended for a century.
Aang was caught in a horrible storm, and as he was about to drown, the Avatar Spirit inside him formed an air pocket, saving himself and Appa, but freezing them inside for the next one hundred years.
It turns out that Aang and Appa aren't actually frozen in the iceberg! Their survival, in fact, came from a powerful burst of Raava's spirit energy that protected the Avatar and his companion within the iceberg for 100 years without aging them a day.
The reason why is because according to Michael DiMartino, co creator, he used most of chi energy to live in the iceberg” and when he was freed he didn't have much left and died at 66 or age 166. But in the spirit realm, his soul remained young.
But Avatar Aang wasn't stuck inside an iceberg for just a few years. Out of greed, Fire Lord Sozin commanded a genocide against the Air Nomads to kill the Avatar. Aang was able to escape the assault but was trapped in an iceberg with Appa through the Avatar State.

Do you age in Cryosleep Avatar?
In Avatar, Jake Sully and other passengers cryosleep while they travel to Pandora. While cryosleeping, or "in cryo", a person does not age, does not dream, and does not need food or water. Technologies like cryosleep are licensed by groups like the RDA to keep humans alive and well for long periods of time.
Unless that theory is true, Grace was impregnated by someone. Kiri's brothers joke that the scientist Norm could be her father. The movie does not reveal much information about the birth of Kiri. It is unclear whether Kiri was conceived before Grace died and her avatar carried her to term.
Avatar Extras explains Sozin's long life, saying, “Some say the comet's power is what allowed Sozin to live for so long.” He continued to rule the Fire Nation for 20 years after slaughtering the airbenders, spending his last years hunting the next Avatar.
If aang hadn't ran away he would have seen the genocide first hand and probably entered the avatar state in a moment of stress or anger. that combined with sozins comet would have flattened the forces there. but the other air templs would still get folded.
The world of Avatar shows that the spirits are never completely gone, making The Legend of Korra ending more open-ended than believed. If Korra can find a way to convene with beings in the Spirit World then the wisdom of former Avatars is still open to her..
Comics later reveal that without an outside force such as war acting against them, Avatars tend to live about 150 years. Ultimately, Aang's short life allowed some of the original characters to make appearances in The Legend of Korra, since her time as the Avatar could not start until after his death.
Appa and Aang met when they were very young, and the two quickly became inseparable. When Aang ran away from home, he took Appa with him, and they were frozen together for a hundred years until Katara and Sokka found them.
In order to fully master the Avatar State, Aang was told by his teacher, Guru Pathik, that he needed to unblock all seven of his chakras. He managed to unblock six chakras but was unable to unblock the seventh as it required him to let go of his earthly attachment to Katara.
The years frozen while in the Avatar State took their toll. As Aang grew older, he learned that time drained his life force, causing him to die of old age at the (biological) age of 66. With so many threats that an Avatar has to deal with, there are many ways he could have gone, but fortunately, Aang died peacefully.

One of the visual effects team's biggest hurdles was how to transform 73-year-old Sigourney Weaver into Kiri, the adopted teenage daughter of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri.

Augustine's colleague Norm Spellman (Joel David Moore) was the father and Grace conceived Kiri before the end of Avatar before somehow giving birth in her Avatar body. However, the more interesting theory is that Kiri is literally the child of Eywa due to some sort of immaculate conception.
Kiri is the inquisitive and intelligent adopted daughter of Jake Sully and Neytiri. Not long after Grace Augustine's death, her dormant avatar was discovered to be pregnant, and Jake and Neytiri adopted the child when she was born.
Paz Socorro is Spider's mom after a romantic relationship with Quaritch led to her getting pregnant. She gave birth to Spider, whose birth name is Miles (just like his father), in 2154. However, Paz Socorro died shortly after that in combat during Avatar's finale.
