It was further revealed that the war god had been a pawn of the main antagonist of the series, Kronos. At the climax of the novel, Percy confronted Ares in combat and against all odds defeated him in a duel. In losing the battle, Ares declared his hatred for Percy Jackson.
Percy's relationship with him is worse than he has with any other Olympian. In The Lightning Thief, the two dueled resulting in Percy's victory and Ares' hate towards Percy to increase. Unfortunately, if Ares tries to kill Percy, he will fall out of the favor of his girlfriend Aphrodite, who takes a liking to Percy.
Since Percy still has the master bolt, Ares says he will have to kill Percy so that it cannot be returned to Zeus. Percy and Ares make a deal that they will fight and if Percy wins, he will return the bolt and be free from Ares; however, if he loses, Ares can take the bolt and transform Percy into anything Ares wishes.
Ares puts a curse on Percy, saying that when he needs his sword the most, it will fail him. He only goes along with granting Percy godhood because he can fight him as many times as he wants and Percy will just keep coming back.
Ares's presence makes Percy angry because his power is to crank up the passions so badly that they cloud your ability to think. How does the god of war convince Percy to retrieve his shield? Ares convinces Percy to get his shield by telling him something about his mom.
Percy's presence was revealed at the worst possible time, as Zeus's Master Bolt, his symbol of power, and Hades's helm of darkness had been stolen. The appearance of a Son of Poseidon made Hades and Zeus suspicious, as Gods can't go into each others' territory, but their children could.
Upon his return from the Underworld, Percy challenges Ares to single combat in "The Prophecy Comes True." And despite going toe to toe with a far more powerful being, Percy wins this confrontation with a little help from Poseidon.
In The Lightning Thief, he attempted to kill Percy Jackson, who was 12 years old, in a duel on a beach. He hoped that in killing Percy, he'd start a war with Poseidon, which would spiral into a full-blown war among all of the gods. He did this out of his love for violence.
While this may seem like a betrayal at first, it was actually Grover playing the part of protector to a tee. Knowing that monsters will find Percy at Yancy, Grover realizes he has to get him away from the school as quickly as possible.
With a grin, Ares admits that he used a hero to steal the bolt and the helm, but he says that Percy was supposed to die in the Underworld to anger Poseidon and leave the bolt there to anger Zeus.
If they were near a pond of some sort, Percy would win easily. In an electrically charged environment, Jason would defeat Percy. There is also the question of how far their abilities can stretch. We know that since Percy can control water, he can possibly control other liquids.
So we all know that at the age of twelve, Percy Jackson fought Ares, the god of war. After Percy injured Ares' ankle, Ares was coming back for a second round, but Kronos intervened and Ares had to retreat.

Zeus and Hera didn't particularly dislike Ares, they just didn't respect him much. Ares is always portrayed as childish, bloodthirsty, and wild. He will join a battle just to make it bloodier, not caring who lived or died. Athena hated him, and no god respected him except maybe Aphrodite, due to her love for him.
Athena is the single most prevalent foe of Ares, the two were the ultimate symbol of war, two siblings with the same station but who were so different they were always ready to fight one another.
Ares was born millennia ago to Zeus, King of the Old Gods, as one of the latter's many godly children. At an indeterminate point, he witnessed the creation of humanity by his father Zeus. Ares despised the human race that Zeus created, so he began corrupting them with war, blood-thirst, and violence.
Was Ares More Evil Than Hades? Hades is the god of the underworld, and while often associated with death, was not considered 'evil. ' Ares's association with the destructive side of war makes him a more controversial figure, though not necessarily more 'evil' than Hades.

Percy Jackson was able to wound Ares, defeat Hades, and nearly defeat a weakened Hyperion all in physical combat, through use of his own powers, or some combination. However, at least the more powerful gods in their divine form or in full use of their powers are too powerful to be defeated by a demigod.
Athena defeated Ares several times. During the Trojan War, she attacked him with a boulder. Athena also helped Heracles (Hercules in Latin) defeat Ares through a non-fatal wound.
Annabeth reveals that Medusa and Poseidon were former lovers (also mentioned in Percy Jackson's Greek Gods). Since Percy is Poseidon's son, Medusa does not want him to suffer. Yet, when Percy and his friends decide to fight her, she attacks him and gets killed in the process.
Who was Zeus' greatest enemy? Well, His greatest enemy was the storm giant Typhon, who was stronger than all the gods combined. Typhon challenged Zeus for the rule of the cosmos.
